Isaac Knowles Former Miamian Dies In New York Mrs. Virginia Joseph Petty, formerly of Miami and recently of New York City, died on last Saturday morning, November 24, in a New York hospital, follow ing an extended period of illness. A native of Miami, where she attended school at both Dorsey and Booker T. Washington High Schools, and the wife of Henry Petty, Mrs. Petty had lived in New York City since 1943. She is survived by three sisters, three orothers, two aunts, one uncle, several other relatives and many friends. Funeral services and burial were held in New York City on Tuesday afternoon, November 27. IN MEMORIAM Our hearts are touched in mem ory of our daughter and sister, MERCEDES HOSEA BYRON who departed this life on Novem ber 28, 1951. What peaceful hours we once en joyed! The Family World War II Vet Passes Alfred “Sammy” Joseph, a veteran of World War 11, brother of Mrs. Virginia Joseph Petty died Monday afternoon in the Pratt General hospital following a long period of illness. Joseph, who lived at 6538 NW 14th court, is survived by a wife, Mrs. Wil lie Mae Joseph, and son, Gerald, I three sisters, three brothers, two j aunts, one uncle, several other ! relatives and many friends. At ! this writing funeral arrangements . were incomplete. Advertise! It Pays Friendship Church Sunday School met at 9:30 a.m. The lesson was reviewed by Rev. C. A. Lang. The devotion at 11 o’clock was conducted by Deacon D. P. Phillips and Deacon R. Cox of St. Matthew’s Baptist churcj).. The sermon was delivered by Rev. W. F. Tanner, Jr., from the subject, “I am not ashamed of the Gospel.” Song service was led by choir No. 2. They sang un til our souls were made happy. The BTU was at 5:30 p.m. The devotions at 7 o’clock were con ducted by Deacon R. D. Williams and Brother Davis. Rev. C. A. Lang preached from the subject, “Message for the Soul.” We real ly had a spiritual song service led by choir No. 1. It was enjoyed by all. If you want to have your souls revived in singing, come to Friendship M. B. church and lis ten to our choirs. The 22nd anniversary of our pastor, the Rev. J. I. Ross, was very successful. We wish to thank the members and friends who at tended. Don’t forget the contest between Friendship and New Bethel Bap tist Church of Opa Locka, Rev. W. K. Smith, pastor, on Decem ber 10. Ross, pastor St. Luke Baptist Church News On Sunday, November 25, the Men’s Day program at St. Luke Baptist church was a glorious success, both spiritually and fi nancially. We want to thank our members, friends and well wish ers for their wonderful co-opera tion. In the 1 la.m. service Rev. Bradley, the assistant pastor of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, gave an inspiring message on, “Take a Stand for God.” taken from Dan iel 3:1-7. In the 700 p.m. service our pastor, Rev. P. W. Williams, delivered a soul-reviving and fill ing message on. “A Source of Power,” taken from Zecharian 4:6, “Not by might, nor by power but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.” Special commendations to the program committee who worked so diligently under the chairman ship of Rev. Clayton, reporters Men Hail New Year At St. Agnes’ Sunday, December 2nd, the First Sunday in Advent, marks the beginning of a brand new Church Year. In observation of the occasion, the Episcopal church has issued a nation-wide clarion like call to all men and boys re quiring them to attend their parish church on Sunday for the Annual Advent Corporate Com munion. St. Agnes’ is participat ing in the national program, and the Rector is repeating the call to the men and boys of St. Agnes. The hour of service is 7:30 a.m. Breakfast will be served by the Laymen’s League, Mr. Roily Johnson, president. Other services for the day will be: Church School at 9:30 a.m., Choral Mass and sermon at 11:00 a.m. and Solemn Vespers and sermon at 7:15 p.m. To all these services you are cordially welcome.
