FLORIDA PAGE TWO Spinning With Sy Hi, there, this is Sy (oh, this hot weather) The Guy taking time out once again to add a few comments about the record world and the people who entertain us. This week’s top five goes as follows: 1. 5-10-15 HOURS—Ruth Brown, Atlantic. 2. HEAVENLY FATHER—Edna McGriff, Jubilee. 3. BE ANYTHING—Ruth Brown, Atlantic. 4. MIDDLE OF THE NlGHT—Clovers, Atlantic. 5. HAVE MERCY BABY—Dominoes, Federal. Still up there at the top of the list is 5-10-15 HOURS. Since it came out this record has been on the very top. Running a close sec ond is HEAVENLY FATHER, followed closely by BE ANYTHING. These three records could all be called number .one as. the popularity is almost even. In our survey of the records most played on juke boxes, records bought in record shops, and songs asked for on the Sepian Parade, these 3 are within a few points apart. In the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, which was rated fifth in last'week’s poll, has jump ed up to fourth position. A new comer to the top five, is HAVE MERCY BABY. This record came out less than a month ago, and has possibilities of becoming another 60 MINUTE MAN. RECORD OF THE WEEK In the batch of new records that came out this week there wasn’t anyone that you could call really good. So I’d like to mention a rec ord that Yours Truly had the privilege of playing on the air the first time in-South Florida several months ago. I’m talking about MOODY MOOD FOR LOVE by King Pleasure. This take-off on James Moody’s sax solo has hit this town by storm. I haven’t met a person who could sing all the words to the song; so for those of you who would like to know the words, here they are through the courtesy of Prestige records and King Pleasure. I suggest you listen to the record in order for you to get the phrasing correctly. SURFACE NOISE • ligWtim Hopkins recording of BALD HEADED WOMAN hits very dose to home at Stone distributors. The first summer Calypso Barn Dance and floor show staged at the Case Society last Monday night was quite a sucoess. Here’s looking forward to many more these tremendous calypso reviews. The town seemed quite empty this week with the disappearance of Phil Harris and his review. Seems that their trip to Orlando last year was so successful that a return en gagement was in order. Bernie Peacock is now recording with his wm band. Received a nice letter from Bernie the other day and he Is having a ball in New York. A lot are leaving town —Going back heme, er on vacation .. . See you around town next year. Starting June 15, Carlos from the Mary Elizabeth hotel will run a Jazz Con cert every Sunday afternoon from 3:30 p.m. till 8:00 at the M. E. Fla minge Room. Most of the fine musicians in town will be appearing •e- he sure to be among those present.
