I was unable to get Phil Harris
to give us an interview this week,
but. I’ll keep working on it. Last
Friday night William Harris,
manager of the Rockland Palace
had a surprise birthday party . .
everyone enjoyed themselves in
cluding Billy Brown, Nat Walk
er, Dave Marks . . . and a host of
other celebrities.
The Sppian Parade has a new
feature on it. It’s called the Em
ployment Service on the Air.
Through the help of the Florida
State Employment office we an
nounce 5 or 6 job availabilities
every evening. So if you’re look
ing for a job we might help you
find one.
FAREWELL TO A SWEEL GUY
Fat Boy Max of Relax with . .
is leaving for the summer. He’s
going to Fort Lauderdale to work
in a clothing store. If you’re
around the neighborhood visit
him. The place is called Shack-O-
Mack. Here’s hoping he’ll be back
for the fall to broadcast the
football games. As much as I may
have kidded him on the air, it
was fun working with him, so

PHARR MEN’S
DAY SPEAKERS
Sunday, June 29, has been set
aside as Men’s Day at St. James
AME Church. The men will have
charge of all activities of the day.
They have arranged a sparkling
program and are urging that you
be present. The program is under
the direction of Doctors Colston
and Hawkins, acting as co-chair
men. Rev. J. B. Blacknell is pas
tor and he is personally extend
ing a cordial invitation to all to
be present.
Prof. Miller A. F. Ritchie,
chairman of the department of
human relations at the Universi
ty of Miami, will be the speaker
for the morning service at 11:00
a.m. Prof. Ritchie will use as his
subject: “Faith of Our Times.”
This will be a memorable occa
sion and if there is a chance of
your hearing Prof. Ritchie and
being with the men of St. James
on next Sunday don’t miss being
present.
Dr. Kelsey Pharr will be the
speaker for the evening service.
We all know that this will be a
real treat. Mr. Arthur King will
be the guest soloist for the day,
and an all male chorus will ren
der music at all services. The
entire program will be one to re
member and we urge that you
come early in order to get a seat
and witness the entire program.
The financial effort of the men
is to report more money than
was reported on Women’s Day by
the women of St. James. The men
of St. James say that they can
and are going to beat the effort
of the women. Come and be with
us and see just what happens.

Six thousand spectators jam
med sidewalks to watch the an
nual St. John’s Day parade Sun
day, June 22.

As I arrived in the area at the
starting point of the occasion, I
could smell that pugnant odor
in the air which is usually follow
ed by rain. The colorful proces
sion was despersed twice by rain.
After reaching the destination
everyone was able to enjoy the
program of which could have only
been understood by a member of
the family. Atty. G. E. Graves
was the principal speaker.
SOMETHING FOR THE KIDS

tention for almost three hours
telling me about the plans he has
in mind to serve Miami. The plan
that actually instituted my desire
to write this article was the one
about a scholarship he has in
mind for some deserving high
school graduate of the future. Bill
said he was going to form a com
mittee of business men in this
area and see if something could
not be worked out in the area of
education for a student from one
of our high schools. Bill Stanley is

The construction of sidewalks
is underway in the Liberty City
area. It is amazing to watch the
big giant machines do the work
of. about 10 or 12 men and get
through before they would have.

enroute to Columbia University
where she will work on her mas
ters degree.
Yvonne Dingle will not go back
to FAMC. Instead she will go to
Baltimore where she will study
business.
I am not the type of fellow to
say, “I told you so” nor will I
discuss with you my belief in pre
destination, but I wil discuss with
you my belief in safe driving,
which is a by-product of an
article written by me in last
week’s publication.
A man was killed in the area
by a car. It is not necessary to
go into details. But—l think it is
essential that our motorists prof
it by this accident of which I am
sure was not intentional. It
would be highly profitable to hu
manity if these unintentional ac
cidents did not occur at all.
Mary Kearson has a certain
young man warming the stools
every nigh: at Carter and John
son Coffee Shop. What’s up doc?
