Mrs. Mary A Sims of 240 NW 9th at., died in Jackson Memorial hospital on Sunday, Get. 4 after an extended illness of several moAtks. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary L. Brown of Miami, and a number of other relatives of Milledgeville, Ga., where the remains were shipped for funeral services and inter ment. Mrs. Annie M. Ryley of 6403 NW 18th ave., died in Jackson Memorial hospital on Saturday, Oct 10, one hour after she was struck by a hit and run driver on the corner of NW 18th ave. and 69th st. Survivors are her husband, Tommie Ryley, son, Arthur Lee, brother, Paul Colson, alt of Miami; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Colson of Cordele, Ga., where the remains were skipped on Oct. 14 for funeral servioes and interment. Mr. Edmund Strachan of 1923 NW 154th st. expired at his home on Sunday, Oct. 11 after an ill ness of several weeks. He is sur vived by his wife, Mrs. Dora Strachan, 2 sons, 3 daughters, one twin brother, two sisters and a number of grand children. Fnneral services will be con ducted on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 1 parr. at the Church of Christ of Prophecy, NW ll.th terr. During the better than two and a half years they have spent here, they have en deared themselves to the masses. When they leave later in this month they will leave an indel lible impression on the Colony for the good they have done. Nurse Hilda V. Bowen, SRN, DON, SCM, who returned to the Bahamas recently after complet ing seven years’ study in Eng land, has joined the staff of the Bahamas General Hospital. She is a sister in the Out Patients De partment and is in charge of the nursing in the eye clinic. On Monday evening, Oct. 5, Lady Neville, at a farewell tea given for her at the Bahamas Gen. Hospital, presented prizes to Nurse Naomi Bain, Nurse Orville Rollins and Nurse Edris Turner. They were named the outstand ing nurses of the year. Mrs. Bertha Smothers, a cer ticated nurse, won second place in a class of fifteen in a dental course in the U. S. She was re cently appointed Dental Assis tant G.S.-2 United States Public Health Service Hospital, San Francisco. She is the daughter of the late Commissioner Nathaniel Dorsett and Mrs. Monica Dorsett. Frank Dixon, 46, who was rob bed and shot by bandits on the night of Sept. 26, is still in the Bahamas General Hospital. The Commissioner of Police has post ed a reward of $1,400 for infor mation leading to the arrest and conviction of the gunmen. Miss Dorothy Eleanor Curry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Curry, and Mr. Ambrose Manna were joined in Holy Matrimony in a stylish wedding on Sunday morning, Oct. 4. The Rev. H. W. Brown performed the ceremony at Bethel Baptist Church. The bride was given in mar riage by her father. Mr. Phil An tonio was best man and Messrs. Anthony Woodside and William Johnson acted as ushers. Misses Mary Hanna and Susan Bethel were charming bridesmaids and aunt of the bride, Mrs. Gwen Hanna, was matron of honor. Little Miss Brenda Fitzgerald was flower girl. Mr. Freddie Mun nings, accompanied \by Mrs. Blanche Horton Stuart on the vio lin, sang “O Perfect Love.” The reception was held that afternoon at the home of Mrs. Woodside at McCullough Corner. The toasts proposed by Rev. Brown and Canon E. W. Holmes were responded to by the bride groom. Mrs. Charles Gibson and Mrs. I. G. Pratt were guests from Miami. Mrs. Emily Clarke, 74. a native of Governor’s Harbor, died at her home in Maud St., Nassau, on Oct. 3. She is survived by four daughters, two sisters and sever al grandchildren. Funeral ser vices were held at St. Matthew's Church. Mrs. Julia Thomas Dean, 83, succombcd suddenly to a stroke at her home, Hatchet Bay. Elou thera, on Oct. 3. Surviving arc her husband, a son. Rev. Richard Dean, J. P., a daughter. Mrs. Margai’et Kemp, two brothers, a sister, 14 grand children, 30 great grands and two great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Margaret Stubbs, 60. died on October 4 at the home of he»- sister on Meadow’s St. A native of Cat Island, Mrs. Stubbs same to Nassau recently to be near her sister, Miss Ellen Poitier, who is seriously ill. She is survived by two other sisters. Mrs. Sarah Al burv and Mrs. Edith Balfour, a brother, Mr. Lincoln Poitier, a daughter, Florence Stubbs, and other relatives.
