PAGE TWO Vicar Honored On Bth Anniversary Members and friends of Christ Episcopal Church joined in the celebration of their Vicar, Father Theodore R. Gibson, eighth anni versary service on Sunday, Oct. 11. At 7:80 p.m. choral Eucharist and sermon was said by the hon ored vicar. At 9:30 a coffee hour was held at which time all friends and members gathered in the parish hall to pay tribute to such a beloved vicar. The program was as follows: Occasion, Mr. William J. Stirrup; solo, “Tlie Lord's Prayer," Mrs. Eloyce Watson; reading, Mrs. Rosa White; music. Miss Laufa Coop er; speaker, Mrs. Elizabeth Vir rick, chairman of the Slum Clearance Committee; music, m O Master Let Me Walk With Thee,” Vicar’s favorite hymn; remarks, Gloria Benson, presentation, Mrs. Ruth Walker; response; Father Theodore R. Gibson; Mr. William J. Stirrup, presided. The coffee hour was expressed by the vicar as a tribute to al ways remember. At 7:30 p.m. solemn vespers were held at which time the honored vicar preached. Since coming to Miami, his na tive home, from the Dtocese of Virginia, Father Gibson is not only an outstanding priest, but is outstanding in civic work as well. He is a graduate of B. T. Washington High School, St. Augustine's College and Bishop Pa me Divinity College. He now serves as vice president of the In terdenominational Ministerial Al liance, member of the Slum Clear ance Committee, member of Bishop's Camp Committee, mem ber of the Housing Committee and a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity. He was chosen as one of the outstanding citizens of Mi ami 19? M. Jackson Jr. and were given post number 5688. The name Is (n honor of the late Lt Melvin R. Jackson, Jr. who gave his life in service for his country and whose home was in Miami. On Sunday, October 11 the vets were very pleased to have Dr. Davis, district surgeon of the state of Fla. and Mr. Harold My hre, 18th district commander, meet with them and helped in or ganizing and electing of officers. Johnson, 1760 NW Ist place. Mr. Fred O. Finley who served as president of the form er organization four years, was elected for the fifth time. Other officers are as follows: Mr. Bernard Johnson, vice president; Mr. Hastings Rolle, secretary; Mr. Mack McKenzie, business manager and critic; Mrs. Sally Johnson, treasurer, Mr. Leonard Johnson, reporter. Other officers will be appointed by the president at its next meeting Thursday, Oct. 15. All former and new members wishing to join are cordially invited to attend our next meeting at the home of Mr. H. Rolle, 1818 NW 6th court. The FCRA is not a new organ ization. It was organized when former President, Herbert Hoo ver went into office and was in strumental in helping many of our sick and poor people. Hun dreds of baskets of groceries were distributed to destitute families and clothing went to thousands. Not only does this organization help people in Miami, but has helped all over the state and in the Bahamas. Whenever a fam ily is reported to our organiza tion our investigators go out to see them and report back the needs of that family and immed iate attention is given it. Wheth er they need medical attention, food or clothing, they get it. It was this organization that was commended by late Governor Dave Sholte for its work in help ing storm sufferers in Florida and in the Bahamas. This organ ization is ready to help any one in destress. Just report your con dition to any one of our mem bers and we will gladly serve you. Central campaign headquarters for Andy Lee, candidate for Mi ami city commissioner, have been opened at 95 NW Ist st., facing the court house. Lee has invited supporters to a house warming to be held at headquarters from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16. He will speak briefly. Airman Thomas Hanna has just returned from overseas duly alter spending one year in Korea. He left there soon after the sign ing of the armistice and arrive* here in September. In the meantime he is at home spending his furlogh with his aunt, Eva Hanna, 1624 NW sth place. He is now assigned at the In tenantional Airport at West Palm Beach, and he will report there for duty the latter part of this month. Mr. and Mrs. Felix Miller re turned to the Bahamas by PAA last week after six weeks’ vaca tion. They were delegates to the National Baptist Convention. While here they were guests o t their sister, Mrs. Julia Williams and other relatives.
