It will probalbly interest you to
know that in response to recent
publicity about polio immuniza
• on, in which your paper was
-'tive, many Negro children re
ceived polio shots.
On Monday morning, June 4th
1,882 Negro children were given
Salk vaccine at the North County
Health Clinic. This was the sec
ond largest single day’s turn out
of any clinic ever run in Dade
County.
We know it will be gratifying
to you to learn of this progress
against polio.
Yours truly,
George M. Erickson, M. D.

FOR TRAVEL -
TAKE THE ‘LUG*
OUT OF
LUGGAGE
Are you going some place this
summer? Os course you are.
Whether it be just a weekend at
jrandfather’s farm or a luxury
vacation abroad, you will want
to carry the right clothes, and be
sure those clothes arrive in
applepie orden
i saw Sally Sutton of Samson
ite Luggage give a demonstra
tion on how to pack when she was
on a Southern tour last week. She
packed a whole weekend ward
robe (petticoats too) in a woman’s
hat tbox. When I saw the clothes
that had been packed and un
packed more than 12 times dur
ing her three day demonstration
series, they were literally fresh
as a daisy.
The trick to packing clothes
with these results is to roll (in
stead of fold) the clothes in tis
sue paper and fit them into the
contour of the bag. The Navy has
used this technique for years.
Shoes are slipped into clear plas
tic bags (easy identification and
protection of other items from
dirt) but not before the toes and
heels have been stuffed with
kleenex, hose or other small
items.
Cosmetics should be placed in
to small plastic bottles. Plastic
decreases the weight considerab
ly. Upon return these small iterAs
can be kept in the luggage for the
next trip.
Finally, a large plastic bag of
the kitchen variety is wonderful
to have along. It can be used to
cart home soiled clothing, wet
bathing suit, towels, etc.
And while we are about it, don’t
take too many clothes. It is no
longer a compliment to one’s
wardrobe nor financial resources
to arrive for a normal holiday
with myriad pieces of luggage
however handsome and well
matched it may be. Rather it is
a sort of mute testimony that you
are not “!n" the know.
