THE MIAMI TIMES—The Peoples’ Newspaper PAGE 6 Baseball Clown at Marlins Week-end Games Javikrie Price, baseball* pre mier trick artist, will bring man/ of his old trick plus a few new ones to Miami Stadium, Satur day night June 9th and Sunday afternoon June 10th, as the Mi ami Marlins meet the Buffalo Bi cons. Price will perform before the game on Saturday and between the games of the Sunday double header. Among the many incredible feats developed by Price are a series of catches made while standing on his head, batting while hanging from his heels, up side-down throws and a group which he calls, “Twenty Ways How Not To Hit a Baseball.” Be sides these he has devised a number of other stunts such as throwing three baseballs at one time to three different catchers, catching flies while driving a jeep, tossing a baseball out of the park /with a sling-shot and ba zooka gun and catching fungoes in his shirt or trousers. One of his newest stunts in volves throwing two baseballs in the and with one swing of the bat, driving one forward toa waiting fielder and one behind him to a receiver. All of these singular abilities came as no accident to Price. More than 15 years ago he decid ed to develop something that was “different” to fall back on in the event he failed to make the grade as a ball player, and all of these efforts have proved very fruitful. In their com plaint they say they charted a coach company bus with rented tires from Firestone for a tour and that on October Ist, 1955 a tire blew out near Socorro, Mex ico. BROWN EIECTED IXORA CHAIRMAN S' '#•••) •., • ■ I jll W ♦ V - <? * - - Mrs. Amanda Franklin Brown, leader of Brownie Troop No. 305, Dunbar Elementary School, was elected- Ixora District Chairman on May 28. She succeeds Mrs. Evelyn Hutchinson Thomas, Vol unteer Worker, whose rsignation was effective May 21 after six years of service. Thirteen leaders from Ixora Districts and vefl Staff members which include Miss Dempsey Creary, General Executive, Miss Minerva Strachan, Negro Execu tive, and Mrs. Jo Hill Smith, were present at the meeting held in the new Communities Services Building. Mrs. Franklin Brown, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, received the A. B. degree from Alcorn College, Alcorn, Mississippi. The following year she completed requirements for the Master’s degree from At lanta University. The same year, she began her teaching career in Dade County, in 1946. She has been a member of the Dunbar faculty since January, 1948. Mrs. Brown directed the activities of the local chapter of the Associa tion for Childhood Education for four yeafs; 1947-49 she served as elected president. Although elec ted Vice president for 1945-51, she again served in the capacity of president due to the illness of the president. At present she is the UNESCO delegate of the chapter. Mrs. Brown is a com municant of Gesu Roman Catho lic parish. Basic training for work in Girl scouting was received under the guidance of the late Corinthia Wilson, Negro Girl Scout Execu tive. Last summer Mrs. Brown ac cepted a Girl Scout Camp Scho larship and attended Camp Edith Macy at Plesantville, New York. This year she has conducted a Basic Course for new leaders. Ixora District includes all of Dade County, north of Coconut Grove. It includes the following schools: Douglas, Dunbar, Phyl lis Wheatley and Booker T. Washington Jr. and Senior High School; Liberty City, (Holmes, Poinckana Park, Dorsey Junior High School and Northwestern Senior High School; James Wel don Johnson; Rainbow Park and Bunche Park. It contains the larger number of Girl Scouts, leaders, and troops. COUPLE WIN $48,000 ON QUIZ SHOW '■HOLLYWOOD (ANP) Lot Angles insurance man Steve Rowland and his wife last week stretched their winning to a total of $48,000 on “Do You Trust Your Wife?” the CBS Television show starring Edgar Bergen. The Rowland couple won over an Air Force warrant officer, Larry Lambert, and his (wife, who had gained the “finals” in the Trust Fund competition by win ing SI2OO in a preliminary quiz on the show. The Lamberts defeated a pickle salesman, Walter Berris, and his wife, Marguerite, and Ronald Overacker—the former “(Baby I Leßoy” of movie lame and his wife Patricia, in the earlier com petition. The Berris couple won S6OO and “Baby Leßoy” and his wife, who themselves are ex pecting a baby, won SI,OO0 — which they said will pay for the birth. Dorothy Rowland, a former school teacher now active in PTA work, brought about the couple’s eighth victory in the Trust Fund quiz when she defeated Warrant Officer Lambert in a 10 part question Ideealink with national jarks. Rowland “trusted his wife” Mrs. Lambert declined to take the question so her husband trusted himself to answer. Mrs. Rowland correctly listed the states in which seven of the parks are situated, while Limbert had five correct answers.
