These youngsters are now ready to enter public school in September. The Liberty Park Pre-school is under the sponsorship of the City of Miami Recreation Department, with Mrs. Janet E. Brown serving as teacher with fine assistance from Leroy Cromartie, playground supervisor. The class room and facilities are furnished by the Housing Author ity of the City of Miami. Daughter Elks To Present Scholarship By DT. ESTELLE BROWN Maedean Pridgean of Mays High School in Goulds, is the winner of the Greater Miami Temple Daughter Elks No. 769 Annual Scholarship. The fund is set up as the Bertie Balwin Foundation. She will receive the award on Sunday morning. The Daughter Elks of Greater Miami Temple have requested the scholarship committee to appear at Macedonia Baptist Church in Coconut Grove, Rev. J. A. F. Fin layson, pastor and present the Bertie Baldwin Scholarship to a young lady in the graduating class of Mays High School of which Roby George is principal. Every year a high school in the county is the recipient of this scholarship for finer womanhood. The award is given in honor of absent Dt. Bertie Baldwin who served her Temple well and long as its Daughter Ruler. All daughters planning" to attend the presentation should call Dt. Lillie Mae Isom MU 1-2490 or Dt. Ma rie White for transportation. On Wednesday night, June 13 there will be reports and election of officers. All daughters are re quested to be present. Failure to do so will invoke a fine of SI.OO. Be sure to answer when the roll is called. \ A delicious pound cake will be given to the lucky person. You can't afford to miss the pound cake fund raising. At the close of the meeting the social session committee will serve ice cream and cake. Be sure you won't be late. We regret to announce that Dts. Robert Scott left last weekend, after spending two weeks of his furlough with his mother, Mrs. Marie Henderson, 5747 Labrea st., Carver Ranches. He is *enroute to Fort Benning where he is assigned. He was ac companied by his wife and two children. Lt. Scott is a graduate of Tuskegee Institute where he received his ROTC training. • * A2|c Robert McKinney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luke McKinney, Carver Ranches, left for Man hattan Beach, N.Y. Monday at 1 pm. He will leave from there for oversea duty in France for the next two years. Robert enjoyed his 36 days furlough. * Lawience McKinney, brother of Robert, reutrned home last week from Florida A and M Uni versity. He is a sophomore. Also Johnny Robinson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Robinson of Carver Ranches, returned home last week from Kentucky State and will be a senior next term. Welcome to all the students from the various colleges and uni versities. Welcome again to Broward County. Miss Allie Mae Williams was elected as delegate to attend the Grand Lodge at Key West in July. A picnic will be sponsored by the juvenile of Pallbearers' Lodge No. 81, on June 13.
