Attend Planning

The Miami Y-Teen Advisers of
the five local high schools and the
Murrell Branch YWCA’s Teen-
Age Department will be hostess to
the State Y-Teen Advisers attend
ing the Y-Teen planning confer
. ence in Miami this weekend.
The all day session will be held
at Booker T. Washington High on
Saturday, October 27, 1956. Miss
Mildred Maultsby of Jacksonville,
state president of the Advisers
Council will be presiding.
Approximately 50 Y-Teen ad
visers are expected to be in at
tendance. They will be coming
from Jacksonville, Tampa, Day
tona Beach and West Palm Beach
to participate in the planning for
the state Y-Teen Conference
which will convene some time in
* April.
Mrs. Geraldine Rooks Ellis is
the Y-Teen program director and
Mrs. A. Louise B’Taylor, execu
tive director of the local Murrell
Branch.
St. Matthew’s Has
New Look
St. Matthew’s Baptist Church,
on NW 17th St. between 3rd Ct.
and 4th Ave., has just completed
extensive renovation. The in
terior has been stoccoed through
out and the front exterior has
been treated with attractive per
ma-stone —giving the edifice a
new look.
The pastor, the Rev. N. F.
Clark, is the founder and builder,
and is the oldest pastor in point
of continuous service in this area;
and he is still going strong.
The minister and loyal congre
gation of St. Matthew’s will cele
brate their 35th anniversary with
a week of services, November 5-11

AGNES BALL WOMEN’S
DAY SPEAKER
Mrs. Agnes M. Ball, wife of
Bishop W. F. Ball, and a person
ality of Missionary emminence,
will be the principal speaker at
the Women’s Day activities at
Allen’s Ch:ipel. Mrs. Ball is the
supervisor of the newly-created
18th Episcopal district and a
woman of rare gift. She has been
editor of the ever-popular Poet’s
Corner in Missionary Magazine.
In this work she did an all-suffi
cient task. She is now unfolding
her hidden talents as a magnifi
cient speaker.
Last Sunday Mrs. Ball spoke to
a huge audience at the AME
Chprch in West Palm Beach. On
Oct. 28, this Sunday night, she
will be the evening speaker at
Allen Chapel AME Church, Rev.
E. M. Blocker, pastor. She will be
presented by Mrs. D. A. Small of
Ward Chapel AME Church, Hal
landale, who is acting supervisor
of the North Miami District Mis
sionary Society.
The public is cordially invited
to come and her these great
speakers. Mrs. Ruby Manuel will
be the morning speaker. She is
a great gospel preacher, so come

Dr. H. W. Brown, pastor of
Bethel Baptist Church, Nassau,
Bahamas, is visiting Florida and
is at present in a meeting with
the Rev. J. H. Johnson, pastor of
Mt. Zion Baptist Church, West
Palm Beach. The meting, a revi
val, closes out on Friday, Oct. 26
after a three-week session.

day evening at Beulah Missionary
Baptist Church in Coconut
Grove, Rev. E. R. Ferguson, pas

ing, Nov. 4, Rev. Brown will
preach at Ebenezer Methodist

Mt. Olivette Baptist Church, Mi

Dr. Brown is a brother of Kirk
Brown, well-known Miamian,
now residing in New Jersey.
Boy Scouts Field
Meet Saturday
The Dade Divisional Annual
Boy Scout Field Meet wi’l be held
on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
on the Coconut Grove School
Park, under the direction of E.
Hutcheson, divisional Scout com
missioner for this area. Boy Scouts
from all troops in the Dade di
vision will participate in this
demonstration of Scouting skills
and know-how. there will also be
many events of Scoutcraft such as
fire by friction and knot tieing.
Atty. L. E. Thomas, chairman
of the divisional committee and
other Scouter will award trophies
to the troops scoring for first,
