Clarence Farrington, a patient
at the mental hospital at Fox Hill,
attacked the medical officer with
a knife on Dec. 15. In the com
bat which lasted about half an
hour, the doctor was stabbed in
the face and head, and on his
hand before Farrington was sub
dued. An attendant, who was with
the doctor, is reported to have
run from the scene and to have
locked himself in a room. Inves
tigation is being made to determ
ine how Farrington obtained the
knife.

His Excellency the Governor re
cently at the opening ceremony
of the multi-million dollar Coral
Harbor Club, as a token of 320
years of friendship between' the
Bahamas and the oldest North
American college.
The plaque measures 12 x 14
inches of a solid plank of very
good “brasiletto” wood, and was
carved by Truman Bailey in
Lima, Peru, and was presented
by the lit. Rev. Spence Burton,
bishop of Nassau, and a 1903 Har
vard graduate.
Back in 1650, the Eleutherans,
in appreciation for help received,
sent 10 tons of brasiletto wooci to
Boston to be sold, and the net
proceeds .be given to the college.

Sportsmen Give
Christmas Baskets
Thirty Miami familes who
might not have had an ela
borate Christmas dinner were
made happy the Sunday before
Christmas when members of the
Square Circle Spprtsmen Club
distributed grocery baskets to
needy families. Members of this
chib have made this an annual
project for the past several years.
The Sportsmen, one of the most
popular clubs in Miami, has en
gaged the huge Bayfront Park
City Auditorium for their 16th
Anniversary Sports Ball on Jan
uary 17th. The many followers
of this club have made all other
halls in this area indequate for
this annual affair.
Edward Bogie is the genial
president of the civic and social
group. Other officers include
Moses Wilson, Israel Armstrong,
James Boykin and Samuel
Wright.

The new public boards have
been appointed for the year 1957.
There are few changes. The De
velopment Board has no colored
representatives on it although the
Bahamas has the colored popula
tion at its peak.
In Miami the Bahamas adver
tisement goes to the Miami Hler
ald and the Sun of Miami Beach.
Your Scribe i 9 wondering the
number of colored people travel
ling to the Bahamas. Should not
be given more publicity than in
the Ebony magazine.
