Dodgers And Red Sox At Miami Stadium Friday The Brooklyn Dodgers return to action tonight (Friday) at the Miami Stadium when they play host to Mike Higgins’ Bor.ton Red Sox at 8:30 p.m. The Red Sox, regarded as one of the top contenders in. the American League pennant race season, will be here tonight and Saturday night. ■ln the Boston lineup will be Ted Williams, one of baseball’s best all-time sluggers; Jackie Jensen, Jim Piersall, Billy Good man, and Heywood C. Sullivan, former University of Florida ath lete. Williams, who hit .345 for Bos ton last season, owns the distinc tion of having hit one of the long est home runs ever recorded at the Miami Stadium. Many base ball observers believe that this may be Ted’s last year in base ball. Among the Boston rookie pros pects this season rs pitcher Jack Spring, former hurler for the Miami Marlins, and outfielder Gordon Windhorn, who hit .307 for San Francisco last year. The Red Sox have always been one of the best drawing cards at the stadium and a crowd of more than 10,000 is expected to be on hand during the Friday and Saturday night games. Following the Red Sox into the ball park will be the Detroit Tigers, who meet Brooklyn in a two-game series Sunday after noon and Monday night. Tickets for all games are on sale daily at North's Travel Bureau and the Miami Stadium box office on the second floor. Calhoun Fights Georgia Boy Rory Calhoun, fiftn ranking middleweight contender, will meet rugged James (Georgia Kid) Bussey in the 10-round main event Tuesday night at the Miami Beach Auditorium. Calhoun, who own? an out standing ring record which shows only one defeat in 27 fights, knocked out Leroy Olyphant and trounced Charley Cotton in his last two starts. The White Plains, N.Y. Negro is trained by Charley Goldman, former trainer for Rooky Marci ano. Calhoun, a pleasing perform er who tosses punches from the opening bell has won more than half of his fights by knockouts. Bussey gave Jiey Giadello a rough evening here last year. Giardello nailed James with everything he had and couldn’t put him down. Since then Bussey has been going good and in hi? last Beach bout he trounced Dolfus Brown, Hawaian middleweight champion. Wee Willie Davis, the wrestler who •won $16,000 on the TV pro gram “$64,000 Question” will headline the wrestling show Fri day night (March 15) at the Mi ami Beach Auditorium. Davis, an authority on flowers, will meet Yvon Robert, Canadi an heavyweight in a one-hour battle. A girl’s tag team match and a half-hour opening bout will round out Promoter Chris Dundee’s program which begins at 8:45 pm. The nation’s best racing drivers will compete Friday night at the Hialeah Speedway in the final all-Offenhauser midget car race of the year. Such veterans of the Indiana polis 500-mile classic as Andy Linden, Len Sutton and Gene Hartley will head the 30-car field. Many other drivers who will race at Indianapolis'in May will compete in the 30-lap main event. The all-midget car show will begin at 8:30 pm. Florida Cage Championship The fast moving Tornadoes of Booker T. Washington High won the Southeast Florida High School Bai iketiball championship on Saturday night, when they de feated Dillard High School of Ft. Lauderdale by a score of 65-55 in the final game of the region tournament, which was played at Northwestern’s gym, last Fri day and Saturday. Charles Stringer scored 27 points for the BTW boy? in the championship game. Northwestern Bulls took the measure of Roosevelt High of West Palm Beach by a margin of 73 to 59 in the consolation game to capture third place honors. The three top team? in the tournament, all of whom will compete in the state tournament at Florida A and M University in Tallahassee, which will be play ed on this Friday and Saturday, March 15 and 16 are Booker T. Washington, the champions, Dil lard, runners-up and Northewest ern. WCKT TO TELECAST 26 LEAGUE GAMES WCKT, Channel 7, the NBC basic affiliate, will carry a 26- game schedule of major league baseball -games on Saturday af ernoon during the 1957 season. Top pennant contenders in both leagues will be seen during the season. The schedule includes games of all eight clubs in the National League and the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, De troit Tigers, world champion New York Yankees, and Washington Senators in the American League. Thebaseball series will open April 6 with an exhibition game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Milwaukee Braves from Dallas, Texas. Another contest will follow on April 13. The flrrt telecast during the regular sea son will be a game between the Braves and the Cincinnati Red legs on April 20 in Milwaukee.
