The Time of Your Life I—-------------- By Father Hafford THE FEAST OF THE WEIK Sunday is the feast of the Most Holy Rosary. It commemorates the victory of the Christians at Le panto, so in some quarters it is called the feast of our Lady of Victory. Perhaps you remember the story: the victory was cred ited to the special help obtained from Mary through the recitation of her Rosary. It brings to mind the plea of Our Lady of Fatima. We van be sure of another victory over the forces of evil if we really get down to work and say our Rosary daily. FOOD FOR THOUGHT American food tastes good to foreigners, but American ideals don’t. TELL ALL How often have you been advised to tell everything you know? We are not thinking about the third degree, but just what goes on at home wtih mother or father trying to get the facts. Did you ever con sider the information you could give to your parish priest about some of the “honorary Catholic” hoys and girls he may not know. There are plenty of them who ought to be in religion classes con ducted at the parish, but because they never stand up to be counted no one in authority knows that they are Catholic. A soul you save will help your own. FLYING CORKS FROM THE POP HOUSE “He claims that he is painfully employed at his uncle’s store.” SHOPPING NOTE What with the price of stamps going up, stamps are very much in the news. The Government Print ing Office, Washington 25 D. C. has a 204 page book for sixty cents that ought to be interesting. It is called “Postage Stamps of the Unit ed States. 1847-1950”. The catalog number is P4.10:950. I thought you might want to know. ZONE OF QUIET If the dollar shrinks any more, the only way it will speak will be in the hands of a ventriloquist. CHURCH BOX Right now a person does not know if he may mention the word prayerbook what with all the mis sals in fashion, so we use the term church book. The main thought is that you make use of something besides your fingers when you at tend Mass. If you just don’t like a missal, be sure to hunt yourself up a prayerbook that will fill the bill, your hands and your time at Mass. Rosaries are in style during Oc tober, but the printed word will keep your mind on the subject of the Mass. People tell me every week how much they get out of Mass when they are intellectually primed for it by the right kind of reading matter during the Holy Sacrifice. Now is the time to set your habits for life. A TURN ABOUT If your references don’t do you justice, perhaps you haven't done justice to your work. HANDWRITING EXPIRTS It seems now that the only hand writing experts left are the ones who try to judge character by someone’s script. Wouldn’t it be a smart idea to make a special ef fort this year to improve your pen manship? We get used to the way we write, and someone who does not know our penmanship habits isn’t quite sure what language we are using. A lot of school work may tend to ruin your writing, so you may have to take a lot of care to form each letter correctly. II pays in the long run. FRESH AIR While the weather is nice, get as much of it as you can. Some of these nights are much too good to spend inside watching TV, giv ing an ear to radio or sitting up with a sick book—that is not the kind you use at school. While you can get some of the good air in your lungs, do so. It may be a long winter.
