THECA Artist Declares Pope’s Blessing Greatest Honor MONTREAL (NC) A 28 year-old artist, whose paintings have been acclaimed widely, re marked here that the greatest hon or ever accorded him was when his hands were blessed by His Holi ness Pope Pius XII. He is Philip J. Aziz of London, Ont., an Anglican and a former member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. He related that when he was in Rome last summer, he had an audience with the Holy Father. “His Holiness showed an inter est in pictures of my work and blessed my hands and the works,” Mr. Aziz told newspapermen here. “I’ll always remember that day. It was a rare privilege for any painter.” Mr. Aziz specializes in religious paintings He came here to exhibit one of his works, “The Blessed Trinity,” at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The painting, which has been displayed in other Canadi an cities, was done for a new mon astery being built in St. Bruno, Que. The painting is triangular in shape to fit into a niche over the main altar. Another of Mr. Aziz’ paintings which has been exhibited widely in Canada is “The Crucifixion.” The artist said that “religious painting is making good progress in Can ada.” He is the first art lecturer at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ont., and is a graduate in fine arts of Yale University. -o- WASHINGTON A res olution adopted by seven youth organizations regarding terrorism in Florida fomented by racial prej udice was termed an expression of the sentiments of “the overwhelm ing majority of the young men and women in this country” by Rep. Hugh J. Addonizio of New Jersey. At the legislator's request, the text of the resolution was reprint ed in the Congressional Record. The resolution was addressed to President Truman, urging him to do all in his power to end the “out rages with utmost vigor.” The resolution was signed by the Rev. Henry J. Murphy, nation al chaplain of the National Feder ation of Catholic College Students, on behalf of the Youth Depart ment, National Catholic Welfare Conference. Others who signed the resolution were representatives of the Young Women's Christian Association, the National Federa tion of Settlements, the National Association for Advancement of Colored People, Unitarian Youth, Students for Democratic Action and the National Jewish Youth Conference. Zanesville Youth Appointed Editor Of College a per NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N. Y. A former high school sports re porter for the Zanesville News and the Zanesville Times-Rtcorder, has been named editor-in-chief of the Index, student publication at Niagara University. He is John C. Mahaney, a sopho more in the university’s college of arts and sciences. In addition to being the first second year man to take over the editor’s reins, Mahaney is the first mid-westerner to hold the post. The son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Char les Mahaney, Zanesville, the new editor is a graduate of St. Thomas high school, where he was prcsi dent of the Junior Holy Name So ciety, president of the Junior Red Cross, sports editor of the school paper, and editor of the annual year book He was also a member of the St. Thomas basketball squad.
