Auxiliary of New York, finished his address to some 500 teachers in the Catho lic schools of the Diocese of the Joliet at their one day institute here, he asked for questions. The first question was. “Would you please use your influence with the mother superior to allow the nuns to watch you on television?” The Bishop, national director of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, had spoken on the Missions, so the question came as something of a surprise. Bishop Sheen was equal to the occasion, however. He threw his arms out wide, and, smiling, said: “Mother superiors everywhere, please let your nuns see my pro gram.” The response was greeted with spontaneous applause, and Bishop Sheen continued, in good-humored fashion, to say that he would not urge nuns to view all TV pro grams. But. he added, the aim of his program is to teach the Divine Law. JOE TOEPFNER, INC. Begin Process To Beatify Scottish Nun A Long Process 27 Poor Clare Nun, Dead Years, Among Thousand Now Availing Decision EDINBURGH. Scotland (NC) —More than 1,000 applications for beatification are now awaiting de cisions of the Sacred Congregation of Rites in Rome, O'Brien, O.F.M., of in commenting chance of securing tion for Margaret the Rev. Eric California, said on Scotland's early beatifica Sinclair, saintly Edinburgh working girl, who died 27 years ago. Father O’Brien is in Scotland as one of the two officials named by the Postulator of Franciscan Caus es in Rome to act as judges for the apostolic process here for Mar garet. who died at the age of 25, a Poor Clare nun and a member of the Franciscan Order. The priest said that if Margaret Sinclair’s process is approved, her beatification might take two years, or it might take 25. “There is great competition,” he commented. Scotland's last beatification— that of Blessed John Ogilvie. S.J.— took from 1927 to 1929. but the priest died 300 years before. Father O'Brien s senior in the process here is the Rev. Guy Brise hois, O.F.M., serving as Promoter of the Faith, commonly known as the “Devil's Advocate.” A French Canadian, he is professor of canon law in Rome’s Franciscan universi ty. The priests’ task was to ensure that the ecclesiastical tribunal is conducted according to Church regulations. If necessary, they may question witnesses. Margaret Sinclair’s 81-year-old mother, a brother and two sisters were among those summoned for cross-examination. Mrs. Sinclair still lives in the humble home in Edinburgh where Margaret was born and where she lived while she worked in a local biscuit fac tory before becoming Sister Mary Francis of the Five Wounds. One of the sisters is a nun herself. Sis ter Cecilia of the Little Sisters of the Poor Convent, Preston. Engf land. Archbishop Gordon Gray of St, Andrews and Edinburgh presided over the tribunal.
