6 Launch Propaganda Campaign Against Communism In India NEW DELHI, India (NC) Members of India's dominant Con gress party have launched a pro paganda campaign against com munism, attacking it as “alien to Indian soil.” The anti-Red propaganda will stress religion, patriotism and re spect for orderly society. The program calls for the training of young men and women between the ages of 21 and 30 who will tour villages and remote areas which are now communist-infested. In the South, where the recent general elections showed surpris ing communist strength, this pro paganda will be carried on in all the regional languages: Tamil, Tel ugu, Malayalam and Kannada. The anti-communist drive comes the wake of reports that India will now be a principal Kremlin target. Georgi M. Malenkov, Sta lins’ probable successor, in his re port to the Russian Party Congress, included India among the countries that need “liberation” at Russian hands. In communist terminology this means that the grounds for a civil war are being laid in In dia. A. K. The judge said that “Tragic Ground” from begin ning to end “deals with the ques tion of sex” and that the "Ian guage is lewd and filthy and the actions and habits of the characters in the hook are in the same cate gory.” He said that “Journeyman” “deals with a similar class of peo ple and is of the same type and nature as the book ’Tragic Ground’.” Judge McDougall said that “Women’s Barracks.” concerned with life in the French women’s army during World War 11. “deals almost entirely with the question of sex relationships” and a matter which might receive proper at tention from “a medical or psycho logical standpoint” but otherwise could have “no other effect than to deprave and corrupt.” “Undoubtedly Obscene” The judge said that “Diamond Lil” has “no literary merits” and can serve “no public good whatso ever.” He said It deals with sex from start to finish and “the tend eney of the book is to deprave and corrupt those whose minds are open to such immoral influence and into whose hands a publica tion of this sort may fall.” Regarding the seven picture magazines, the judge found that they were of absolutely no artis tic value the photographs were vulgar and lewt. and may, 1 think, properly be defined as ‘smut.’ They are undoubtedly obscene within the meaning of the test which I have applied to the other cases N.I). (RNS) Pu pils of a new Roman Catholic pa rochial school in this community will continue to get transportation in public school buses, Joseph A. Curran, transportation chairman of the local School Committee, said here. Mr. Curran’s decision was an nounced after City Solicitor Frank W. Linnell had informed Mayor Edward M. Fields in a formal opin ion that municipal funds could not be legally so used and that persist ence in the practice might imperil the city’s subsidy from the state education office. Mr. Curran said he would not order service to pupils of Sacred Heart parochial school discontinu ed until he as so directed by the School Committee. Eliminating it, he said, would not enable the city to reduce the number of buses or drivers it now uses. In presentnig his opinion. Mr. Linnell warned that continuing the practice might have two "seri ous consequences.” One was the possibility of a tex paver’s suit to have payment of the local school tax declared illegal, he said, and the other was the possi bility of state aid being cut off. The attorney quoted William O. Bailey, acting state education com missioner, as saying state funds could not be used for other than public purposes. School buses of some Maine cit ies and towns do pick up and dis charge parochial school pupils while on their regular routes. This practice is justified in some of these communities by the claim that no extra funds are thus ex pended, Mr. Linnell said, adding that he questioned whether courts would uphold the assertion. o------------------ 105 Chinese Priests Slain HONG KONG—At least 105 Chi nese priests have been killed by the Reris or have died in communist prisons since 1944 More than 200 Chinese priests are still confined to prisons. The glories of Christ are dis cerned in the same psychological instant as our own littleness. Those who protect their ego and pamper it, by the same token are never generous to Our Lord or His Blessed Mother. The farther we get from the spirit of Christ, the more we think of ourselves. When the sun is far behind us, a long shadow falls in front of us and we be lieve ourselves taller than we are. As the sun gets closer to us, the shadow diminishes. As God approaches, the conceit lessens. As the passion to see Christ lov ed in India, Japan, and Africa becames intense, we want to give up more and more to see Him increase. We decrease our pride, we deflate our pocketbook, we diminish our wants, we minimize our pleasures and gradually the love of Christ becomes compell ing. constraining and imperative.
