During the school year 1951-1952 twenty-three schools were partici pating in the National School Lunch Program, and after the first workshop of February, eight new applications were made. Four of these programs were in operation by September of the school year 1952 1953- Christ the King Schoo), Our Lady of Victory, Holy Spirit, Columbus, and Blessed Sacrament, Newark. St Rose, New Lexington and St. Monsignori and sixty Priests were in attendance. Father Paul J. Rat- Program managers, cooks, assistant cooks and cafeteria workers most of them vol unteer help, are key figures in bringing the national school lunch act into our diocesan school lunchrooms. The tireless efforts of these people who have defeated their work to bringing nutri- tious meals to the children of our schools deserve the praise of everyone. Notre Dame High School, Portsmouth, started operation in January, 1953. St. Cyprian deferred opening un til this present school year, 1953 1954.
