A for mer Notre Dame basketball star, Meyer served briefly as an assist ant coach at his Alma Mater, then became head coach at DePaul—to win nation wide acclaim as the developer of the great George Mi kan, according to the article. Since Mikan’s departure, Meyer has continued to build winning teams despite what the article’s authors. Heading a court of honor for Harley will be members of the 1916, ’17 and ’19 teams. Harley spear headed Ohio State’s first Western Conference champ ionship team in his sophomore year, and the Buckeyes repeated as titleholders in 1917. Hailey’s only college defeat occurred in the final game of his senior year when Illinois defeated the Buckeyes in the last eight seconds, 9 to 7. The loss deprived Ohio State of a third title during Harleys playing days. A Hall of Fame plaque will be presented to Harley, who will be one of 20 of the nations all-time intercollegiate heroes to be hon ored over the country this fall. The plaque will be an exact du plicate of one which will be hung in the Hall of Fame at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. N.J.. where the Football Shrine will be erected. A third copy will be pre sented to Ohio State University. Chillicothe Booster Cl uh Opens Drive for Additional Members CHILLICOTHE—The Catholic Central Booster club opened its fourth year last week with plans for a big membership drive. Funds from the campaign will be used to finance the school's athletic program. Richard Southworth, president, said it is this year’s aim to enroll every member of the St. Mary and St Peter parishes A commocial campaign also will he staged, with business houses invited to support the school’s program. Funds will be ued to buy complete new baketball uniforms, for a varsity, as ssell as necessary equipment for the basketball, baseball and golf teams, and for intra mural activities. Last year, the school fielded the first baseball team in its history and also its first golf team. Fin ancial assistance from the Boost ers Club made these possible, along with an enlarged intramural sched ule which gave every student an opportunity to participate. This season the Catholic Cen tral basketball team will be coach ed by Fr. Charles Jones, assist ant pastor of St. Mar, Church. He replaces Father John O’Conner, transferred to Columbus. Father Jones’ staff includes Will ard Taylor athletic director and assistant coach of the varsity, and Jack Vogel, coach of the reserves. The Booser Club plans to hold a fall festival at the school early in November as a kickoff for the first basketball game which sends Catholic Central to Centralia on Nov. 6. The first home game this year will be Nov. 13, against Al lensville. This years team will be main stayed by last year s players who compiled an impressive 15-2 rec ord for the season. Booster Club membership cards may be procured from any of the club’s officers. St. Mary's finally got in the win circle last week when they defeat ed Lancaster BIS. 13-6, Previously the Rams had dropped 25-0 and 24-6 tilts to Dover St. Joseph and Mt. Vernon. Rosary lost its first start to Cir cleville, 31-0, then came back and topped Zanesville Rosecrans 25-0. Last Saturday the Crusaders lost to Springfield Central Catholic. Zanesville Rosecrans, still look ing for its first win. after three losses will go to Glouster Friday night to battle the Tom Cats of the Muskingum Valley League. The Bishops lost to West Lafayette, Co lumbus Rosary and last week lost to Columbus St. diaries. The Zanesville school was sad dened last week when Hank Wei gelt, last year’s star quarterback, basketball guard and baseball pitch er. was killed in an automobile ac cident. Weigelt was attending Ma rietta college and was on the foot ball team there. He was named to the TIMES all-diocesan basketball team last spring. The Blue Knights opened the season (their first) with a 56-19 tri umph over Etna. Next they drop ped Junction City 18-12, and last Friday saw Bob Fowle’s squad de feat Frazeysburg 51-6. Newark St. Francis, also unbeat en in three starts, will take on Frazeysburg this Friday. This will be the first road game for the Green Waves. Marion St. Mary's rampaging Irish are idle this week after three straight wins. Last week Marion dropped Mt. Gilead 36-0. St. Mary’s will visit Columbus St. Mary next week. Eugene Walet 111. started sailing six years ago under doctors orders as an aid to sinus trouble, he revealed here.
