Cardinal Ousted Because He Did Not Yield To Reds Slovak Death Edict ‘Hangs' Over Jesuit CLEVELAND (NC) When Father Paul Bajan, S.J., a native of Slovakia, says, "Hl be hanged if I go back to Slovakia,” he is not using a slang expression picked up since his coming to America two years ago. He is referring to a sentence im posed upon him in absentia be cause he declined an invitation, ex tended him through Communist newspapers, to conic back to Slo vakia and all would be forgiven. With his refusal to accept, came the sentence that he be hanged. The sentence for hanging, says Father Bajan, was imposed for what he did outside Slovakia ra ther than for his activities in that country under Soviet rule. His daily broadcast from the Vatican radio station, beaming words of encouragement to the suffering Slovak people, was the reason for the sentence. The gist of his talks to the Slovak people, he said here, was that “they were sharing in the Passion of Christ in their suffering.” October Month of the Rosary The richness that the Catholic Faith holds for all her children can be multiplied during October the month of the Rosary. The Pope urged his hearers to know their Christian principles so as to be able to judge when a method of treatment has not prov ed itself, or is in contrast to Christian teaching. The Pontiff recently outlined the fundamental Christian attiude towards pychotherapy and clini cal psychology in an address to delegates to the Fifth Interna tional Congress on Psychotherapy and Clinical Psychology held at Rome last April. (In his April talk, the Holy Father stressed the necessity of viewing man as a psychic unit and totality, as a structured unit as a social unit, and as a transcend ent unit tending toward God.) Pope Pius said it is known how much in practice the Church per mits for the sake of penance and moderate mortification, "the in hibition of certain faculties and movements of the spirit.” He stat ed that the Church also considers “slight physical limitation and even sharp penances that involve the prospect of a somewhat shorter span of life, as justified when they are inspired by the highest motives. “Nevertheless the Pope added “the Church has always rejected and condemned pseudo-religious and pseudo-mystic forms of experi ence which could disturb the psychic balance of the subject.” Courteous Service ADams 5747 HARRIS, OPTICIANS 106 last Broad It.
