The honors came in the fields of his tory, journalism and music. When the returns cam? in from the Amewean History Section of the December Ohio Every Pupil Test, Sr. M. Lois. O S F., found her pupils were 14 points above the state median of 56. Helping to achieve this high score were John Dolfinger. John Wittenmeier, John Conroy and Donald Eckman, all of whom made 95 per cent or over. A delayed report from the C.S.P.A. received in December, an nounced that the Rosary' Year book, The Campanile, had taken all-Catholic honors, receiving the rating of excellent on 13 points including typography, page bat ance, originality in execution of art work, features and copy. Apr. 19—Members of the St. Vin cent de Paul Society throughout the diocese attended the organiza tion’s annual meeting at St. Charles Seminary. APR. 22 The final step in the three-year project of renovating St. Joseph Cathedral was held today when the four altars of the church were consecrated by Bishop Ready. APR. 24 Bishop Ready was named Episcopal Chairman of the newly established Department of Immigration in the National Cath olic Welfare Conference. APR. 24 An essay entitled “Employ the Handicapped”, writ ten by L. Eugene Arnold. 17-year old Rosecrans High School Junior, won the first prize in the national contest sponsored by the Presi dent’s Committee on Employment of the Physically Handicapped. APR. 26 Members of the Di ocesan Council of Catholic Women were asked to nurture religious vocations in an address today by Bishop Ready. The occasion was the groups spring conference in Circleville. APR. 30—The $1,000,000 addi tion to Mercy Hospital, Mt. Vernon, was dedicated today by Bishop Rea dy. The new building adds approx imately 70 beds to the hospital. APR. 30 Father Richard Dodd was named diocesan director of Youth Camps, succeeding Msgr. George O. Mason, pastor of St. Jo seph Church, Circleville. MAY 1 The Ohio State Coun cil of the Knights of Columbus went on record today as being op posed to the passage of House Bill 159 which would abolish the De partment of Film Censorship in Ohio. MAY 2*— Father Andrew Mur chie. O S B. (John T. Murchie, jr.) of Portsmouth was ordained a Benedictine priest at St. Meinrad s Abbey. St. Meinrad s, Ind. MAY 3 Seventy-five members of the advisory boards and staffs of the Catholic Welfare Bureaus reviewed the achievements of the bureaus at a meeting here today. Bishop Ready was the principal speaker. MAY7 21 Completion of Mt. Carmel Hospital’s $4,025,000 build ing program and observance of the School of Nursing’s 50th anniver sary occasioned a three-day cele bration, which opened today.
