PT A NOTES PORTSMOUTH “Health” was the theme of the January meeting of the St. Mary Grade School PT A. Short talks were given by Father Julius G. Klinec. the pastor. Sister M. Gabriella, the principal, and Mrs.. Eward Davis, school nurse. Fourth grade pupils entertained with a play entitled. “A Trip to Good Healthland”, under the direc tion of their teacher, Sister M. Lambert. President Walker Warner named the committees which will handle the annual PTA dinner on Feb. 21. DENNISON Public Health Director Paul Mice spoke on ‘•Health for Children” at the recent meeting of Immaculate Conception PTA. The group made plans for a Spaghetti Din ner on Sunday, Jan 31, from 12 to 6 p.m., with all workers receiving meals at half price. Members also adopted a policy of sending a gift to children ab sent from school for an extended period due to serious illness. Father Hugh J. Gilbert asks that all parents attend the Feb. 9 meeting to discuss the question of uniforms for St. Mary School children. DOVER At the next meeting of the St. Joseph PTA on Feb. 21, a panel will discuss “Home Work and Child Discipline.” Mrs. Clar ence Schilling, finance chairman, announced at the recent meeting that the group will sponsor a Bake Sale on Feb. 6. Guest speaker was Mrs. Lau rence Krantz, who gave a talk on the school's health program as well as a talk on diabetes. A film on the disease was also shown. CHILLICOTHE St. Peter PTA will sponsor a public mardi gras carnival Mar. 1, in the school auditorium. Plans for the event were announced this week by Mrs. Joseph Weisenberger, chairman of the Finance commit tee. It was also announced that an “appreciation dinner” for the St. Peter Schoolboy Patroi will be sponsored by the PTA. The magazine said that “with TV heavily cutting box office receipts, some producers have evidently sent out the word that a heavy dose of sex will attract the public.” America said a charge is being circulated that “the plain fact of the matter is that for nearly a gen eration the movies of this country have been filmed according to the ground rules of a minority relig ious faith.” "That is not true," tha maga zine stated. "As even Eric John ston has said, the movies have been filmed, if they *ollowed the code, in accordance with ‘the eternal and unchanging verities of the Ten Commandments/ Ef forts to 'modernize' now under the impact of TV competition may lead to a breakdown of alt regulation." America pointed out that “the Code was freely adopted by the major producers in 1930.” Produc ers who have observed the Code “found that fidelity to the Code helped both business and the ar tistic quality of the films,” the magazine said. -------------------0------------------ Msgr. Wegner Starts Tour OMAHA. Nebr. (NC) Msgr. Nicholas H. Wegner, director of Boys Town, has left here to make a four-month, good-will tour of Ja pan, Korea, Malaya, the Philip pines, India. Pakistan, Turkey and Greece at the request of the U.S. State Department it has been an nounced. The State Department in a let ter inviting Monsignor Wegner to make the trip said it was designed for “the urgent need to promote mutual understanding between the United States and other countries of the free world, bv establishing relations of mutual respect and confidence.” He was scheduled to leave San Francisco for Honolulu by plane today and is due to arrive at the American Embassy in Tokyo on February 2. The general plan of the tour calls for three or four, weeks in Japan, three weeks in the Philip pines. a few weeks in Singapore and the Malay States. 10 days in India with visits scheduled to Kar achi. Pakistan, and Bangkok then visits to Istanbul and Ankara in Turkey before traveling to Athens and other parts of Greece. The Monsignor said he planned to lease Athens in late May in time to ar rive in Rome for the canonization rites of Blessed Pope Pius X. VATICAN CITY (Radio, NC) His Holiness Pope Pius XII has promulgated decrees approving miracles proposed for the canonization of Blessed Pope Pius X, Blessed Pierre Louis Chanel, and Blessed Maria Crocifissa di Roma. The miracles in each case nec essarily occurred alter beatifica tion of the parties concerned. Ap proval of the miracles as genuine is required as part of the canoniza tion process. Blessed Pius X, who died in 1914, was beatified June 3. 1951, and his two miracles concern a Naples lawyer and a Palermo nun. Francesco Balsani, the lawyer, was cured overnight of a cancer ous lUng abscess on August 27, 1951. Sister Maria Luisa Scorcia was suddenly cured of a chronic and dangerous inflammation in February. 1952. Hoermle’s GA. 2195 GA. 2196 1894 Pareona Ave. Theme Chosen For *54 Family Life Conference WASHINGTON (NC) “The Mother, The Heart Of The Home” has been selected as the theme for the 1954 National Catholic Conference on Family Life, it was announced here by Father Edgar Schmiedeler, O.S.B., director of the Family Life Bureau, National Catholic Welfare Conference, which sponsors the annual convention. The three-day meeting will be held in New Orleans under the patronage of New Orleans’ Arch bishop Joseph F. Rummel from March 24 to 26. More than 50 experts on family life and organizational leaders will participate in the convention. Among topics to be discussed are: the religious life of the family, rec reational family activities, the eco nomic as it relates to the family, marriage preparation, marriage counseling, child care and training in the home. Blessed Pierre. 1803-41, was a French priest martyred on the island of Futuna in the Tonga archipelago. Three Cardinals were present for reading of the decrees in the presence of the Pope. Club Women Gel Results In Clean-Up Drive NEW YORK (NC) Chicago club women have achieved quick results in a drive to remove salac ious literature from newsstands. McCall’s magazine reports in its February issue. The final day of the convention, it was announced, will be devoted to activity programs, including special sessions for diocesan direc tors of family life, meetings for members of affiliates of the Na tional Council of Catholic Men and the National Council of Catholic Women, and other sessions for groups affiliated with the Youth Department, N.C.W.C. Father Schmiedeler said that, following the custom of past years, when the Family Holy Hour is held at the closing of the convention, similar ceremonies will be held in scores of parishes throughout the nation, making it possible for sev eral million‘Catholics to take some part in the conference program. It will mark the first time in 22 years that the convention will be held in the south. Father Schmied eler said that he has held meetings with Dr. Edward A. Huth of Day ton. O., president of the NCCFL. and with Father Joseph P.
