The Holy Hour for young people of the city was inaugurated last month and was attended by more than 300 young men and women. Plens for this Holy Hour are un der the direction of Jim Walter of St. Mary Magdalene parish, chair man of the Religious committee of the Catholic Youth Council. Parish committees are being set up under the parish CYO's, posters are be ing used and other means of publi cizing the Holy Hour are being em ployed in an attempt to bring a large number of young people to the Holy Hour. The preliminaries of the show will be held during the month of February and the finals will be held in conjunction with the Catholic Youth Fiesta during the week after Easter. Tom Alt hauser of St. Paul’s Parish, Wester ville, is heading the committee making plans for the show. The monthly Deanery meeting of the Central Deanery CYC held at Corpus Christi last week featured a discussion on the Marian Year. A four member committee was set up which will plan and prepare the discussion for the month of Febru ary which is to be on the topic of “Marriage—the Pope's Encyclical Castii Connubii”. St. John the Baptist CYO made final plans at its meeting last Tues day night for the Polka Frolic to be held this Saturday evening from 7:30 to 11:30 o’clock in the parish hall. The frolic is open to mem bers and triends of the CYO. Ernie Melerango, the President of the group, extends a welcome to all. Senior CYO activity in Corpus Christi will be marked with a so cial this weekend at the school hall. Jack Griesenbrock. John Ben der and Judy Coflman are plan ning Ihe party which they hope will be well attended. Young peo ple out of high school are urged to attend. The quarterly meeting of the Di ocesan Council of Catholic Youth will be held during the month of February in Columbus. The Coun cil will hear reports on the youth activity of the Deaneries. Discus sion will be held on the constitu tion. the Diocesan Youth Rally and Diocesan and Deanery conferences. Bishops Johannes J. Weber of Strasbourg and Joseph J. Heintz of Metz declare in their joint state ment that the present school sys tem in the provinces gives com plete satisfaction to the over whelming majority of the people. The "school peace’’ and the mut ual respect among religious denom inations in Alsace-Lorraine could serve as an example everywhere, the Bishops say. The Bishops point out that, four years ago, 996 of 1.000 heads of families declared themselves in favor of continued religious teach ing in the schools. Climax of the Fiesta week, which is marked by special parish pro grams. is a city wide Fiesta social to be held on Friday.* April 23rd. Featured at the Social will be mus ic by two orchestras and other en tertainment. Highlighting this pro gram will be the finals of a city wide CYO talent, sponsored by the CYHighs. the Junior Council of par ish youth groups. Prizes will be awarded lor the winners of this show. The CYO Fiesta program began back in 1941 when the CYO’s of the city banded together to set this an nual social for the benefit of the Diocesan camps and the youth pro gram. It is expected to be one of the outstanding observances of the Marian Year. The international event is being sponsored jointly by the Interna tional Catholic Child Bureau, which has its headquarters here, and the Pax Christi Movement, of which His Eminence Maurice Cardinal Felt in. Archbishop of Paris, is president. Pax Christi, an interna tional Catholic movement for peace, was established in 1945.
