10—THE CATHOLIC TIMES Friday, Apr 30, 1954 FIFTH QUARTER The annua! CYO Elementary Division Baseball Leagues opened last week for 24 parish teams of the city. The teams are dhided into four leagues. St. Thomas is back in the loop after a few years ab sence as is St. Vincent’s. Familiar faces are back on the coaching scene, including Jack Welch at or pus Christi Earl Vermillion at Im maculate Conception. John Ma loney at St. Ladislaus, Charlie Le bel at St. Agatha and Jack White at St. Augustine's. The leagues were to operate in full swing last week but rain washed out a num ber of games. Two games played and reported to the Catholic Youth Office found Holy Family showing tremendous strength in downing St. Francis by a 9 to 0 score. In the other game in the same league St, Mary Magdalene showed power in dropping St. Agatha 10 Wildness on the part of the pitchers gave St. Agatha mi their runs. The Relays will be under the sponsorship of the Knights of Columbus and will be run on the Aquinas High School Track and Field, The eliminations take place in the morning with the finals being run off in the after noon. There are team and individu al awards. The Camp Night is scheduled for Red Bird Stadium on Tuesday night, June 15, when the Red Birds meet St. Paul.
