So closes the 29th annual season for the CYO Ele mentary teams. The year’s pro gram consisted of the regular foot ball, basketball and baseball leagues for boys, the softball and leagues for boys, the softball and basketball leagues for girls, the an nual CYO swim meet and relays for boys and annual “Play Day for girls. Twenty-eight schools participated in the activities for boys while 18 parishes were active in the girls’ division. The CYO program does not extend into the summer months for youngsters of elementary age. Much credit is due the coaches and managers of the various teams for their work. There was excel lent sporsmanship shown in all ac tivities by the teams taking part This is of course due to the direc tion of the good men and women who take their time to coach these teams. The CYO program for the city of Columbus has a lot to look forward to. With the expansion of the city and the growth of the number of Catholics and parishes, the recrea tion program grows. New facilities are becoming available especially for basketball which will make more activity possible. The fo’otball season of next fall may see a few revisions and additions Of course, the program can grow and grow but it will not be worth anything to the individual parish or group of youngsters unless the interest in the parish grows along with it— here’s hoping that it will.
