C.—(NC) —Work of the Catholic Church in several fields of activity is included in an exhibit current ly showing here before touring 77 foreign countries. Entitled. “The Church in America.” the presentation is sponsored by the United States Information Agency. By means of pictures and text, it traces religion in this country from the earliest missionaries through the modern-day churches. Compiled by the Smithsonian Institution, the exhibit covers the Church in the areas of education, community service, work with the aged, as a spiritual force in the country, as an influence on the American family, and as the center of recreational and cultural activ ity in the community.- The presentation goes to Ger many for its first stop sometime in October, a spokesman said. A duplicate is being made of the ex hibit and this one will be sent to the Near East. It is estimated that the two exhibits w'ill be traveling for about two years. British Fashion Leader To Wear Carmelite Habit LONDON (NC) A leading London fashion house chief. Mrs. Marie Louise Dumont, general manager of Jacqmar of Mayfair, has announced that she is to be come a Carmelite nun. Mrs. Dumont, at 41 one of Lon don’s most successful business women, told reporters: “I can do more for those I love this way than any other way. I know full well what I am doing.” Known to buyers’ throughout Europe and North America as a human dynamo, the tall, blonde, elegant fashion leader added: “It will be worth it. 1 shall probably miss everything terribly, but 1 be lieve I can serve mankind better inside the convent walls than I can now.” Mrs. Dumont was brought up a Protestant and became a Catholic eight years ago. Ever since then she has wanted to become a nun. In this unnamed, strictly clois tered, convent. Mrs. Du.nont will leave behind everything, even her name, for a six-month probation period as a novice. Everything she owns must be willed away, and she must abandon her fine clothes and jewelry for the plain brown Car melite habit and sandals. Four or five years later she will be eligible to take her final vows. Mrs. Dumont joined Jacqmar in 1940 as a secretary. Six years iatei she became general manager and later also a director. The business woman made her dramatitc decision after returning from a long vacation overseas. “The Mother Prioress advised me to see everything in the world I wanted to see to make sure I knew what I was giving up.” she said.
