Pray For Peace Drive Spreads To 17 Nations BONN, Germany (NC) Many Europeans who have looked upon the United State- as an excessively aggressive if peace-loving, nation, have altered their opinion—thanks to the “prayers for peace” movement started six years ago by a veteran State Department official. Now serving as executive director of the U.S. High Com mission for Germany. Herve J. L’Heureux was chief of the State Department’s visa division when he instituted in 1948 a minute-a-day prayers for peace campaign which has now spread to 17 countries. problem for the communists, who claim to have a monopoly on peace ful intentions. If they tear down the posters, they implicitly give the lie to their professed yearning for peace. On the other hand, if they allow the posters to remain, they weaken their own propaganda, which consistently depicts Amer ica as a nation of warmongers. Spain Consecrated TO MaFV III ClimaX Of Solemn Rites ZARAGOZA, Spain (NC) Spain’s most colorful and momen tous Marian Year celebration took place here when top-ranking ec clesiastical and civic dignitaries joined in the solemn consecration of the nation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The event climaxed a Marian Congress which opened on Oct. 7 and featured an impressive exhi bition of Marian art in which the works of Spanish and Italian mas ters were strongly represented. The date chosen was the Feast of Our Lady of the Pilar, a title giv en to the Mother of God by the Spanish people in commemoration of the tradition that the Virgin ap peared near here to St. James the Apostle, patron of Spain. The Council of Parish CYO’s of the Central Deanery has been hard at work during the last month to get the youth program moving for the parish CYO groups. The CYO Council is the coordi nating unit of the existing youth groups in the deanery. It was set up last year at the annual confer ence of the parish CYO’s held at St. Mary Magdalene parish. Offi cers and delegates from six dis tricts of the deanery, representing all the parishes, were elected. This Executive Board meets ev ery three months to exchange ideas and to arrange programs, leagues and other activities that will help the youth of the city to have ac tive parish groups. This council has been very effective so far and also practices what it preaches. The Council president is also president of his parish CYO and so with the other officers. Indica tive of the success of the council movement is the success of the CYO monthly Holy Hour. The six teen young people on the board knew wrhat they were saying when they agreed that a monthly Holy Hour for all the youth of the in a different parish church just the thing. Last January Holy Hour was inaugurated every month even during the summer there were at least hundred young people in attend ance. But it isn’t all just a lot of ac tivity that fills out the program being developed by the Council. Real hard discussion and study on subjects related to the Apostolate and to young people in general is being planned for the months to come. Catholic Student Study Clubs are being organized in which the youth themselves will discuss prob lems related to their age. -----------------o----------------- Card.
