Dennison Wins Tourney
The Dennison Knights of Colum
bus No. 1 team copped the sixth
annual district K. of C. bawling
tournament in Dennison recently.
Other teams in the tourney were
New Philadelphia, Cambridge and
Dover.
Members of the winning team
were Marcus Le Monte, Joe Mar
tini, Bill Chini, John Martini and
Gene Bonvechio This marked the
fourth championship for a Denni
son team in the six years of the
tournament.

Finnen Heads Brush
Karl Finnen, former New Lexing
ton high school football star, has
been appointed head football coach
at Cleveland Brush high school,
it was announced recently. Finnen,
the son of Mr. and Mrs. William
Finnen of New Lexington, formerly
served as head football, basketball
and track coach at Chardon (O.)
high school. He has been a mem
ber of the Brush coaching staff for
the past three years.

sured with Lloyd’s, London under
writers, it was announced here.
The treasures are stored in a
strong-room at the Basilica. They
include a platinum chalice of Pope
Pius VI and a gold crucifix of the
Emporer Justin II.

Learning a lot about basketball
—and boys—are a group of men
who form the CYO Men’s Volun
teer group headed by Jack Hoff
man of St. Thomas. These men
represent their parish CYO in the
Sunday basketball league at St.
Charles. They work one day out
of the season keeping score, time,
maintaining order and overlook
ing things in general. Hoffman acts
as coordinator of the plan, calling
the men each week, advising them
of their duties and being on hand
to get things under way.

Finals in Exempted Parochial Tournament Tonight
Zanesville Rosecrans Visits
St. Charles As Season Ends
Finals in the Central Exempted Parochial Class basket
ball tournament are scheduled in Westerville’s Otterbein col
lege gvm tonight with the three winners gaining berths in
the Central District tourney which starts next week. In the
first game at 6:30 p.m., Newark St. Francis’ CCL co-champions
take on London’s Red Raiders with the Green Wave strong
favorites to win after downing Columbus University Wednes
day evening.
In the eight o'clock middle game.
Columbus Holy Family takes a
heavy underdog role into,its fray
with Mt. Gilead. At 9:30 Marion St.
Mary and Columbus St. Mary, win
ner over Granville, clash in the
final contest.
The regular season comes to an
end Saturday night when Columbus
St. Charles meets its Alumni on
the Carolian court. Prior to
game, though, there are two tilts
of interest tonight.

Bishops Coming Fast
Zanesville Rosecrans drops in at
the Cards’ gym tonight with Dick
Mattingly’s club sporting a 15-4
record including nine straight
wins. Rosecrans, which lost two .of
its first three and four of the first
ten games, has really been rolling
in high gear with all five starters
hitting with consistency. Two of
the Bishop wins in the last month
have been over Newark St. Francis,
52-48, and New Lejjngton St. Al
oysius, 89-45.
Another Friday night clash will
see Columbus Rosary traveling to
Delphos where they’ll take on last
year’s state runner-up team, Del
phos St. John.. The Delphos club
is Class A this season and has
scored a number of wins over Class
A opposition in the northwest area.
(They beat Toledo Central Catholic
early this season by scoring 32
points in the final quarter. Rosa
ry, although not expected to win,
will get good experience for the
Class A district coming up.
