Sports of the Times The Knights of Columbus State Council Bowling Association of Ohio will open its 37th Annual Tournament at the Olentangy Vill age Bowling Alleys, Columbus, on Saturday, March 5th, with a Formal Opening Squad of fourteen teams representing the Ohio State Coun cil West Park Council, Cleveland Bishop Fenwick and St. Patrick Councils from Cincinnati Sandusky Council, Sandusky Tiffin Council, Tiffin Delphos Council, Delphos Columbus Council, Santa Maria Council, Assumption Council, Mar ian Council, and Columbus General Assembly 4th Degree, all of Colum bus. State Deputy Rogers Assn. President Sanner Mayor Sensen brenrfer, and other Fraternal and Civic Leaders will take part in the opening activities, which will be followed by a dinner at Columbus Council No. 400 s Club Rooms for those participating. The Regular Section of the Tour nament will-start with a 7:00 P. M. Squad on Saturday, March 5th. to be followed through later that evening and all Day Sunday by teams and doubles and singles par ticipants from Marietta, Wooster, Marion, Cleveland, Bedford. Lorain, Middletown, Lakewood, Warren, Toledo, Sandusky and Sharonville This will be followed each weekend through April 17th by a record breaking number of 490 Five Man MUST The St. Joseph’s Home for ihe Destitute, Arppiikara, India, was blessed and inaugurated by Cardinal Tisserant on November 25th, 1953. The Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus were placed in charge of this angelic work. Al the present time they care for the lame, the deaf, the dumb and the aged. Five lonely sisters, they nnw care for over 100 oi these pitiful souls. They actually have room for only thirty-five patients. We hope to help them bu’ld another modest shelter for the sick. $1,500 will gladden their hearts and care for the sick. Any little mite will do wonders. $1-510-525— anything will help cure the destitute and bring the Lord into their hearts. Please do help. Your reward will be great in heaven. This Association is recognized by the American Brfwling Congress to be the oldest Fraternal Bowling Association in its membership, having been organized and holding its first Tournament here in Colum bus in 1918 and each year there after. Its Tournaments annually are among the first two or three men’s Tournaments in Ohio, both Fraternal and Open, in the matter of number of teams and individual entrants. Louis Szendry of Sandusky Conn cil, one of the organizers and first secretary of the Association, will participate in the Opening Cere monies and will also participate in the Regular Section of the Tourna ment over the Opening Weekend. Szendery is the only member of the Association who has participated in all of the Association’s Tourna ments from the time of its first Tournament and is still a 190 aver age bowler.
