The Most Reverend Michael J. Ready, D.D. Bishop of Columbus 198 East Broad Street Columbus 15. Ohin Your Excellency: The mission world rejoices greatly that the Diocese of Columbus evidenced its concern for souls in such an outstanding magnanimous way during 1954. The finan cial and material record of the Diocesan Mission Office is presented herewith as a barometer of the spirit of love and sacrifice that obtains among our clergy, religious, and faithful. Membership in the Society for the Propagation of the Faith has become better rooted as a habit of Catho lic life by which the faithful ally themselves with their brethren of the whole Church, in the worldwide aposto late for souls. The Missionary Cooperation Plan by providing first hand instruction on individual missions has elicited a generous response from parishes and given great help to missionaries. Diocesan, home, and foreign missions have been aided proving a catholicity of spirit that is truly Christlike. The impressive facts about mission zeal among our students are that it results from a study of the people and the problems of mission lands, and secondly it is their personal self-denial that accounts for their total. May it please Your Excellency to accept this sum mary in the name of the Church and to bestow your blessing on the priests, lhe religious, the devoted sisters and faithful who love the missions.
