Father Thomas A. Stack, rector of St. Patrick’s Church in East Hampton, Conn., reminded the na tionwide audience of the “Catholic Hour” that the Holy Father .has specifically commended the prac tice of the Dialogue Mass, even though “the ideal participation de sired by the Popes is the High Mass sung by priest, choir and people.” “After generations in which the large body of the faithful have been ‘mute and silent spectators’,” he said, “it is not easy to change at once into participation in song —and song, too, in a tongue not our own. The Dialogue Mass can be a step towards the congrega tional singing of High Mass. And he said that “if the congregation ally sung Mass is the ideal type of High Mass, so the recitation of the Dialogue Mass seems to pro vide the ideal realization of Low Mass.” o---------------- Nurses'" Group Elects Donovan Miss Sally Donovan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo D. Cushing last week offered a remedy for what he described as the “real danger that threatens our nation to day.” The danger, according to the prelate, is not the possi bility of war, but the growth in men’s minds of the kind of thinking that makes war first pos sible and then inevitable. As a remedy to this type of thinking, the Archbishop said: “Theology, the study of God and God’s creation, as God Himself re vealed it—this is the proper study of mankind. Modem science has re jected theology in a vain effort to subsitute man for God. Only by returning to the study of theology in the strictest sense can man hope to conquer the threat of force which scientific progress has made so ominously real.” No one has ever penetrated the meaning of Christianity unless he has understood its missions in re lation to the changing problems of the present as well as its ultimate purpose of direction to the world to come, the Archbishop said. “Those who would erect a bar rier between the Church and the world are either lukewarm Catho lics who resist the diffusive ener gy of God’s love, or dedicated ad vocates of a worldly kingdom, bent on destroying religion as the only obstacle in the way of the triumph of an irreligious humanism," the Archbishop stated. “The enemies of the Church know well that the best way to crush it is to drive it out of the marketplace and confine it within the limits of the sanctuary. Catho lics who yield to the persuasions of their worldly associates that re ligion should be kept out of their education, business and social life are not only false to the demands of their Faith, but active coopera tors in a campaign to substitute a man-made code of morality for the Ten Commandments and to raise man himself to the dignity of the supreme lord of the universe.” Archbishop Cushing said it Is not enough for a man as head of the house to be a generous pro vider. He must also share in the development of his children's ideas and character must as sume his obligations as a citizen, and perform his duty as a human being to be “interested in and make what efforts he can toward tho peace and happiness of the world." “In all these phases of his life,” the Archbishop added, “he must act in accordance with the laws of God and the Catholic way of life.” The Archbishop issued a call for practicing, devoted Catholics who will build up public opinion not The firms listed here deserve to be remembered when you are distributing your patronage io the different lines of business. O ■IThe Peoples Store Delaware •I just in this country, but in other nations, outlawing war until every other remedy has been tried. This nation now is following two completely incompatible philoso phies of government, ‘the Arch bishop said. He explained: “On the one hand, we are not only preparing to meet force with force we are working furiously to create the crude, ir resistable military power against which other nations will be driven to defend themselves. On the other hand, we are making plans for the future of our country which con template the continuance of forms of government which can survive only in a peaceful world, in which nations concentrate their efforts upon the improvement of the hu man conditions of their subjects. Sooner or later these conflicting tendencies must clash.” ■..—.............. o-------------------------- Mexican Parents’ Congress Hails Dr. Salk’s Work MEXICO CITY—(Radio, NO The new anti-polio vaccine discov ered by Dr. Jonas E.
