a study made by a graduate student
at Xavier University.
Four years ago Dr. Walter J.
Clarke, Xavier researcher, discov
ered that an “appalling percent
age" of parents failed to supervise
their children’s television habits.
Now^frs. R. C. Wigger, student of
education research in a class con
ducted by Dr. Clarke, has reported
that her own study, just complet
ed, showed the same percentage—
approximately 52 percent—of indif
ferent parents.

tasy and a dog to murder and
crime, we have little to fear,” con
cluded Mrs. Wigger. w ho is a mem

A music teacher, she was “sur
prised" at the youngsters’ dislike
of Liberace, but she thought they
showed ‘good taste" in their dis
like of wrestling, and added that
“children can hardly be expected
to appreciate Firestone.”
Another fact turned up by Mrs.
Wigger’s research was that only
one out of the 164 boys and girls
she quizzed admitted not having
a television set. In his 1951 survey
Dr. Clarke had found that one
fourth of the 998 children question
ed did not have TV sets.
At that time Dr. Clark* also
