OHIO Diocesan Football Teams Prep for Previews Lettermen Anchor St. Mary Line Coach Sixteen Dover St Joseph athletes could settle down to the serious business of the coming football season this week after finally getting their coachffig situation straightened out. The mix-up occurred when Joe Drotovich resigned last May to take an assistant coaching joh at Canton Central Catholic The school promptly hired Bob Krueg er, a Xavier University graduate. Things were all set then until about a month ago when Krueger was offered an assistant’s job in his home town of Cincinnati. He took the job and that left the Ramblers holding the bag Last Fri day St. Joseph school officials sign• ed Chuck Lucas, a Miami, O, grad uate who coached last season at Mineral City. Lucas got his first good look at the Ramblers for this year last Monday. He found 16 lettermen back, led by co-captains George Milyiori, an end, and quarter back Tom Beraducci. Both are three year veterans as is Joel Spiker, a tackle. As of right now the leading can didates for starting jobs are Leon ard Margletta and Milyiori, ends, Chuck Haugh. Spiker and Jim Don nelly, tackles Gary Lamonica, Lar rv Zuchegno and Rich Danarni, guards Ed Kaufman, son of Herb Kaufman, who has served as coach the past two weeks, center Bera ducci and George Zifer, quarter- Notre Dame President Consultant on POW Code WASHINGTON—(NO Father Theodore M. K SOW Season Starts Next Friday With Full Schedule of Games Eight diocesan football teams will participate in grid previews around the diocese tonight and to morrow with the remaining three teams waiting until next week to get the grid season underway. Six of the previews are scheduled for Friday with two schools, New Lexington St. Aloysius and Newark St. Francis waiting until Saturday to take part in the Tri-County Six Man League preview set for South Zanesville. This showing will probably give an insight into the race for the coming season with all of the league teams taking part. New ark St. Francis won the title last year with an unbeaten seven and nothing record xyith four of the wins coming in loop actiona At Columbus Central, Coach El wood Petchel will get his first “game” look as his Aquinas Ter riers when they meet either the host school or Delaware or Lin den. Since three of these teams are members of the City League the show will give Petchel an idea of what the Terriers have to do once the season gets underway. Columbus St. Charles returns to the scene of last year s preview Dover St. Joseph Hires New Vets Return backs Don Pace, Gene Zuchegno and Kenny Aken will work at the halfback and fullback spots. Ber aducci and Zifer will probably al ternate between these signal calling and halfback positions. Jo? Pace and John Patterson, two freshmen who have looked good in practice so far, will prob ably see plenty of action especially on defense. Kaufman summed up the Ram blers’ chances this week with the statemerft, "We wlU consider it a successful season if we eaw break even. With the tough schedule that we have I don't see how we can do much’better than that."
