OHIO The football season officially gets under way this week-end with 10 of the diocese’s 11 teams in ac tion. Two teams, Columbus St. Charles and New Lexington St. AL oysius, jumped the gun and play ed Thursday. The Carolians met Bexley and Bob Fowle’s St. Al’s team played Jacksontown. Only Newark St. Francis does not start this week. The Green Waves open their season next Friday at Frazeysburg. Friday night’s action will see five games played while three more tilts are set for Saturday night. Marion St. Mary journeys to Ken ton where Ray Rohbin’s crew will attempt to keep their unbreaten string intact. Columbus Rosary, los ers of only one game last year, will host Hebron at Jones Field, while Columbus St. Mary meets Lancaster BIS. Zanesville Rose crans travels to West Lafayette and Columbus Aquinas takes the trip to Cambridge. Saturday night Wheelersburg visits Portsmouth Notre Dame, Dover St. Joseph goes to Goshen Union and Roscoe visits Dennison St.Mary. In previews last Friday Aquinas stamped itself as a team with strong possibilities as the Terriers first tied Columbus Linden 0-0 and then came back to roll up 14 points against Delaware. Grid Season Starts This Weekend With All But One Team in Action SouLh 14-0 with a good offensive display. Against South St. Charles drove 70 yards after receiving the Kick off and scored when halfback Chuck Le Bel scored from five yards out. Later in the same period fullback Lou Martin gained 55 yards in three plays to set up the second TD when quarterback John Dorrian sneaked over from the two. Center Larry Sopko kicked both extra points. At Marini-Franklin St. Mary and Reynoldsburg played to a 6-6 tie in a game in which all the scoring took place in the final three min utes. The Rams started the scoring off at the three minute mark when quarterback Al Buccilla hit end Bill Stewart with a pass that was good for 55 years and a touch down. Reynoldsburg came right back when sub fullback Andy Willard returned the kickoff 35 yards and four plays later took a pass from Bill Mills and scampered 33 yards to knot the score. That’s all the scoring there was. Zanesville Rosecrans fought back to tie Crooksville 6-6 in the pre view at Zanesville only to have the Perry County chib come back with another score with less than a min ute remaining to defeat the Bish ops. 12-6. The Ceramics tallied first when quarterback Rod Hughes hit half back Larry Cook with a pass that carried over 37 yards. Rosecrans bounced back later in the same period as a Pete Clark to Joe Tom Bramlish, Ex-Rosecrans Ace, Wins 10 Games As A Pro first. Besides his hurling chores, the Bishop hurler hit three home runs one a grand-slammer. He took over first base duties during the last two months of the season when the team’s regular first base man became ill and besides turn ing in a first class fielding job he hit 250. While in high school, Bramlish led the Bishops to the semifinals in the state baseball tournament by pitching and winning four games in five days. Waverly, the eventual state champs, finally oust ed Rosecrans in the next-to-last game. The Cincinnati Redleg farmhand lettered in football, basketball and baseball at Rosecrans.
