NEWS SERVICE) MILAN Italy “No man must lack bread, a roof over his head, clothing and work.” There tvere tremendous cheers when Archbishop Giovan ni Battista Montim of Milan told this to thousands of Catholic woricers who had climbed Sacro Monte in the Province of Vaiese to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Christian Association of Italian Workers (ACLI). In speaking to the gathering Archbishop Montim talked on the question, “What does it mean to be a ‘Christian worker’?” He call ed it important because the an swers “are not always dear, not always sufficient.” "When this question it put to you," the Archbishop told the workers, "then tell your ques tioner this: 'My Faith give* me th* idee. My religion gives me the doctrine, gives me the prin ciples, give* me the light. How can one safely walk without light?" “The idea seems tn be nothing, yet it is everything,” he contin nued “It is the idea that guides man. The prelate made a passionate appeal for charity, which alone “can generate a relationship among men based on goodness, love, brotherhood and peace.” Charity, he said must become “our philosophy of life” and its prac tice can work wonders in creating new human and social relation ships. Archbishop Montim then direct ed his listeners’ attention to the future goals of the Christian Work ers’ movement. “Until yesterday,” he said, “the relationship between employer and worker was an al most unilateral one, with the em ployer giving the orders and the worker carrying them out. Governor Simms of New Mexico signed into law on March 31. 1955, a measure which says that each county in New Mexico may fur nish transportation for all children attending classes in compliance with New Mexico's compulsory school attendance law, in the same manner and over the same routes of travel provided for pupils at tending state public schools. Baptists in New Mexico sent let ters to Governor Simms, urging him not to sign the measure.
