Third ----------God Love You--------- He Took Upon Himself The■Form Two touching seones in the Passion of Our Divine Lord are: the washing of the feet of the disciples the night of the Last Supper, •nd the tak ing up of His cross as the instrument of is own death. Both these humil iations ere understood in the light of a prop oc y 700 years be made by Isaias fore, that He Would be a suf fering slave. The same idea was recalled by St. Paul, who said that Ho took upon Him self the form of a slave. Now w hat are the works of a slave? They are twofold: first, to do dirty work—that is work that involves what is foul and repusive and secondly, to do heavy work—heavy uiok is the bearing of physical burdens associated w’ith this is the degre dation .when one is forced to bend beneath a dull mechnnical meaningless load day after day. Spiritualize both of these con cepts associated with the slave: dirt stands for sin. while heavy burdens represent anxieties, suffering, pain and the dull round ot existence. Our Ixnd did the work of a slave, first, by washing the feet of His dis ciples. which was the symbol of washing away the sins of the world, then He took up His cross which was the symbol of bearing the pain, suffering and ignominy of men. The very day He did both, He said to us: "I have given you an example." In other words, if He takes on the sins and suf* tarings of the world, so must we. Anyone who refuses to un dertake the revolting tasks in an area of life is denying his Christian vocation. As St. Paul 6 of a Slave ton J. Sheen by Bishop Fn said: "Boar thee one anothors' burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ." As He bears the cross, so we must bear the sins of the pagan world and the suf ferings and hunger of India and Vietnam. Our Lord is one who "bears" He bore our flesh, He bore our cross. He bore our suf fering, He bore our sins. Will you help us to do some dirty work in the Missions—namely, washing the feet of lepers in Christ's name? Will you help us to do some heavy work— namely, lifting the burden of darkness from the souls of pagans? To do this requires a sacrifice, you send the Holy make the DO YOU Have Any: Bracelets, rings, costume jewelry, cuff links, (silver combs dishes (sterling silver and gold) earrings, eyeglass frames POTATO CHIPS French Fried Pretzels Popcorn Corn Crisps POTATO CHIPS 1849 S.
