Previously North had won the Northern division of the Loop while St. Charles cop ped the Southern division title. The Carolians complet ed their summer season with a 10-1 record, the lone loss coming to Columbus Aquinas, last year’s champions. The Holy Father noted that this was not the first time that he had addressed a sports group, because “the doors of this house are open to everyone and even more so this, your father’s heart.” The Pontiff praised the Span ish team he was addressing. The team, he pointed out, was widely known not only because it excels in sports but also because it strives to develop team members’ spiritual life. Today, he said, they may meet for a training session or a game, tomorrow they will meet for a spiritual retreat. “Sports activities,’’ the Pope declared, “can be a school of vir tue. Presenting the trophy was the loop's presi dent Paul Wyman. The championship has been won by the Cards eight of the nine years the league has operated. Columbus Aquinas won the title last year in its first year as a member. Herbert R1G44T HANDED PtTCHBR FOR "THE COLUMBUS JETS Roy Herbert, the Columbus Jets ace righthanded pitcher, is proving a valuable asset to the club in two ways. He's a top-notch pitcher and he's also able to help the youhger hurlers on the staff. A three year major league veteran, Herbert, who is still only 27 years old, will be on hand for the annual Catholic Campers Night game on Aug. 27 when the Jets meet the Havana Sugar Kings in a regular International League game. Proceeds from the sale of tickets to the game go to the two diocesan youth camps, Camp St. Rita and Camp St. Joseph. Columbus Discount Has Increase Mary Bustin, treasurer of the Columbus Discount 4 Loan Corp., 568 E. Broad St., announces that the closing business reports as of May 31, 1956, showed a healthy increase over the correspond ing date of 1955. Miss Bustin points out that the percentage of increase of the total outstanding receivables May 31, 1956, over May 31, 1955, was 35 per cent.
