Frtattag St. Francis Gets Fourteenth Straight Victory Rams Lose Columbus St. Charles’ Lou Martin scored from two feet out in the final two seconds last Friday to give the Cardinals a hard fought, 13-7 win over Columbus Central on the Pirate field. The win upped the Cards’ mark to two straight wins and left them on top of the weekend firing. Newark St. Francis opened its season with an impressive 62-19 win over New Lexington St. Aloy sius to record the school’s four teenth consecutive win. The Green Wave, who have never lost a game under Coach Walter Reid, stand second in standings as all other teams have lost at least one game. Frigay night St. Charles guns for its third victory when Wash ington C. H. plays the host to Jack Ryan's hard-hitting crew. In other games tonight, Ports mouth Notre Dame (0-2) plays at Fairland, Columbus St. Mary (1-1) meets Zanesville Rosecrans (1-1) at Zanesville, Columbus Aquinas (1-1) tests Columbus West on the latter’s field, Green field McClain tackles Columbus Roseary (1-1) at Jones Field and Columbus Watterson (0-2) goes to Columbus Eastmoor. Three games are scheduled for Saturday night with Cardington journeying to Marion St. Mary (0-2), Jacksontown goes against Newark St. Francis (1-0) and Mal vern trying Dennison St. Mary (1-1) on the Blue Wave grounds. Grade School Footballers Begin Season On Sept. 25 the whistle blew for the start of the 1956 Catholic Elementary Grade School football season. Twenty-seven teams took the field in the course of the week. These teams are participating in four leagues, which are divided according to weights of the teams. The four leagues are: Class A— Heavyweight, Class A Light weight, Class Heavyweight, and Class Lightweight. This year two teams will travel to the Veterans Hospital in Chil licothe to play for the enjoyment of the veterans every Sunday of the season. Holy Spirit is the newest ad dition to the leagues .. Diocesan Standings See Benefit Football Game The crowd filled the huge Busch Baseball Stadium, which was donated for the affair by Au gust A. Busch, Jr., owner of the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Club. John J. Butler was general chair man of the committee in charge of the benefit game. The $6,000,000 pediatric hospit al was built as a memorial to the late Cardinal John J. Glennon. When it was opened last July, Archbishop Joseph E. Ritter ex pressed a wish that some way could be found to finance medical care for children who could not otherwise afford it. As a result, the benefit game was planned. They saw the Green Bay Packers beat the Chicago Cardinals, 29-21, in a game which netted $60,000 for the benefit of needy children re quiring care in the Cardinal Glen non Memorial Hospital. NEW ORLEANS—(NC)—Frank Sclafani is ready to begin his third year as a pre-medical stu dent at St.. Edward’s University in Austin, Tex., which is con ducted by the. Congregation of Holy Cross. He says he is “feeling great,” but less than four weeks ago his heart stopped beating and he stopped breathing on an operat ing table. The doctor was com pleting the operation, with the patient under anesthesia, when the anesthetist announced the pa tient’s heart had stopped heat ing and that he had ceased to breathe. Using whatever sterile instru ments were available a resident physician opened the left side of the chest. Then a surgeon wait ing in an adjacent room to oper ate on another patient, rushed in and began to massage the heart. On the third stroke the heart beat, then kept oh beating.
