(NC) If something is not done to halt the flood of objectionable literature, the situation “will get worse and worse,” the director of the National Office for Decent Literature (NODL) warned here. Objectionable literature “is a growing danger to the welfare, the ideals and the ideas of our youngsters,” Msgr. Thomas J. He denied that the NODL ever urged boycotts or unlisted po lice action in support of its aims, as wes maintained recent ly by John Fischer, editor of Harper's Magazine. This exploration may more often be an informal part of college living than a part of formal c’assroom instruction,” says the statement. In its section on financing, the statement expresses opposi tion to proposals for Federal aid to public or private institutions of higher education for plant construction at this time. However, it points to a trend toward increased Federal re sponsibility in American life and maintains that unless other donors come to the aid of needy schools, “increased Federal sup port will he necessary to meet the expansion emergency of coming years.” de- by to This statement is the first the group of 20 educators deal with higher education.
