Coaching Job Landed By Ken Neville Neville, who shrewdly Columbus St. Mary’s Ken coached a s k e tball team to the State finals in 1956, has been named coach of all sports at a cksonville Trimble High School in Ath ens County. Neville is a graduate of Spring field Central Catholic High School and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Wittenburg College in 1950. He was appoint ed coach at St. Mary in 195k His most successful year was in 1956 whan his basketball squad won the Central Catholic League championship, as well as the district and regional titles. The Ramblers won the semi-final game and was on the way to victory for the State title but lost out in the closing minutes to Arcanum. So strong was Neville’s 1956 squad, he spent a lot of time scouting future opponents while allowing his assistant, Earl Gray, to pilot the team in some of its games. When St. Mary had to meet a tough opponent, like St. Charles, Neville was there to eye the situation. The 33-year-old coach resigned his position at St. Mary last Fall. The five team CCL, which formed in 1950, was nar rowed down to three teams when St. Mary and Rosary were accepted in the Franklin Coun ty League. Academy and University, both members of the four year-old Metro League, as is St. Mary, also joined the Franklin County League thereby lowering th* baseball circuit membership three team*. to only in the effective year, the When membership county loop becomes in the 1958-59 school only schools remaining in the CCL will be Holy Family, New ark St. Francis and St. Charles. Holy Family, St. Charles and Watterson will be the hold overs in the Metro baseball loop. Because schools, which are not members of any loop have found it increasingly difficult to round out their athletic schedules, the two circuits are expected to prevent the second alternative. Thus, tha Metro League and the CCL probably will try to attract new schools. The circuits have a year to complish this mission.
