To the eyes of the flesh, lepers are the most pi i a 1 e of creatures to the eyes of faith and to those who work with them, they are the most lovable. The following letter from a Bishop is typical of the attitude of the Church: “Far in the interior of our mission at an altitude of from six to nine thousand feet we have one hundred and fifty thousand souls. They can be reached only by plane. There is a veritable plague of leprosy. No one knows for sure but there are probably as many as three thousand lepers. We built a leper compound composed of grass huts, and wards with fa cilities for some three hundred lepers. Now there are four hundred in residence there. The grass buildings show signs of collapse. Moreover, they are very dangerous in case of fire. We would like to build a permanent colony with cement floors, cut timber walls and galvanized iron roofs. A ward suitable for twenty patients will cost about two thousand dollars or a hundred dollars per bed. I feel that the con version of the whole popula tion will be only a matter of time if we can take proper care of the lepers.” Whatever aid you send for these and other lepers of the world, will be dispensed by the Holy Father as the head of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Whatever you give to the Propagation of the Faith is distributed by the Vicar of Christ. GOD LOVE YOU to Anon. “Enclosed please find $5 a token of charity for the foreign missions. Daily Warns Of Socialist Party ‘Snares’ VATICAN- CITY —(NC) —Ital ian Catholics were warned against “snares” set by the Socialist par ty to win over Catholics and pre pare the way for communism in Italy. The warning was Issued by L’Osservatore Romano, Vatican City daily, in response to an ar ticle published in the Socialist newspaper, Avanti. The Avanti article appealed to Catholics and socialists to join forces to help solve Italy’s strife-torn govern mental situation. The Church, said the Vatican City newspaper, condemns com munism and makes very definite qualifications and reservations concerning socialism. As witness to the Church’s stand on socialism, L’Osservatore quoted from Pope Pius Xi’s en cyclical, “Quadragesimo Anno:” “Society as pictured by social ism cannot exist nor be achieved without truly excessive coercion Although socialism, like all errors, contains some residue of truth, a face never denied by the popes, it is, however, based on a human doctrine of its own, which Elactric Roto-Rooter Sewer and Drain Service. 211 Pershing Drive Phone Lancaster OL. 3-7581 Automobile Parte—Accessories QUALITY AUTO PARTS Fadriek Platea Kln« Waaner Lockhead Brak* Ltaiae Bor*-Warner Produete Complete Ante Parte aad Meehtne Oi»e BeiMee Phone OL. 3-2654 410 N. (NC Photos) WASHINGTON (NC) The decision of the State De partment to reinstate mili tary assistance to communist dictator Marshal Tito of Yugoslavia is a "retreat from morality,” Rep. John P. Saylor of Pennsylvania said here. In a statement prepared for de livery on the, floor of the House, Rep. Saylor asserted that “this diabolical deal” is unfair to the American taxpayers, to the patri otic people of Yugoslavia who is not in line with Christian teaching.” Challenging the independence which the Italian Socialist party claims from communism, L’Osser vatore said that the socialist group has never neglected the op portunity to assert its alliance with the Communist party. The newspaper noted that the Socialist party in Italy has been working with the country’s Com munist party for the past 13 years. Referring to this history of col laboration, the Vatican City daily issued a final warning: “How can one possibly have any illusions about the existence of any real ‘process of autonomy’ within the Italian Socialist party —after what has happened since the end of the war and in the face of so many solemn as sertions which are substantially identifiable with Communism.” How can you fail to make the kale: Get money in scads by using want ads.
