Tempi-ton, ehai tred with being- interested in the fifty one quarts tit booze seized recently by Deputy-sheriff Donaldson, was held in Justice Vtwood’s court Saturday morning-. The hearing- was before a jury, and the jury after being out some time returned a verdict of guilty, and assessed a fine of $100 and costs. Templeton told a very clear story of his part of the attempt to “run the blockade.' but points brought out by the state that he did not make '-]car, were weighed by the jury, with a con viction resulting. An appeal was taken to the Circuit Court. Here s the story of Templeton: He and Frank Curott, who a few' days ago paid a fine of $100 and costs for transporting, pleading guilty to the charge, were residents of Hac kett City. He and Curott came to Fayetteville to get the Ford cad be longing to the latter, which had been left there some few days before. When they reached Fayetteville, Cu rott went on to Monet, leaving Tem pleton at Fayetteville to bring the car. Arriving at Alonett Currott took charge of the car, while Templeton was eating h:s breakfast. And it " es uumig .ms unit’ mat trie wmswj was placed aboard. The drive was started homeward about noon, but at Soligman they were forced to stop four hours while the car was being: repaired. This threw them to cross the state line just about dusk. It was a cold, sleeting: night, and tht curtains were all up. The whiskey had ben placed in the bac k end of the car, in a cardboard box. Templeton stated that, he knew noth ing of the whiskey being in the car until the arrest by Deputy Donaldson. Witnesses wt re here from Hackett City at the hearing who testified that Templeton had a good reputation in hi home town The state vvac represented by Prose cuting Attorney Combs and Deputy Flowers. er. of this place, who made an address to the large crowd.
