The Star thinks the whole thing was a farce with good citizens the victims and a few officials the sole beneficia ries. Mrs. Grider has been real sick for. some time, but is reported some bet :er at this writing. Mr. and Mrs. Muri Johnson of Hew itt Springs visited Mrs. Johnson’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Donaldson, Sunday. Howard Bearden, little son of Dr. Bearden, has been real sick for some time with typhoid fever, but is bet ter at this time. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Harp of Zion spent Sunday night with the latter’s mother, Mrs. Ellen Vanzant, and at tended the pie supper. The pie supper at this place Sat urday night for the benefit of the school was well attended, the pro ceeds amounting to $9. There will be a grave yard working at Sonora Wednesday, September 26. Would be glad for every one who is interested in this work to come. The protracted meeting will begin here Monday night, Oct. 8. The meet ing will be conducted by Rev. Ditter line, pastor of the M. E. Church, South. There will be a box supper at Sono ra Saturday night, September 29, fcr the benefit of the M. E. Church. Everybody come and bring some one with you. We have Sunday school here every Sunday morning at eleven o’clock, and i prayer meeting Sunday evening at | 7:30. We cordially invite every one to come, and especially those in this community. Fred Reed and family will move this week to Prairie Grove, where Mr. Reed has a position. We regret very much to see Mr. and Mrs. Reed leave our community, but wish them success in their new home. Prof. Foust has been chosen as principal of the public school at this place, succeeding Prof. Whitford, who resigned two weeks ago. Miss Ger trude Jihnson of Pilgrim Rest is the assistant teacher. Elias Scott, an old Confederate sold ier, and one of the oldest settlers in this section, is critically ill at the home of his son, Dan Scott, in the east part of town and is not expected to recover. Miss Hazel Thompson, who went to Waxahachie, Texas, last week to enter school, was not pleased with the out look and returned Monday She left Tuesday for Eureka Springs and will attend Crescent college. Guy C. Stafford, who went to Fort' Roots last week to take the exam ination for military duty, was accept ed and has been assigned to the supply company of the Second Regiment, be ing regimental supply sergeant Hal Farrar and Paul Cummings, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Cummings, left Tuesday night for Boonville, Mo., to enter Kemper Military College for the coming year. Hall will graduate this year, but it is Paul’s first term. Miss Nellie Sanders went over to Gravette Saturday to assume her du ties Monday as one of the teachers in the school at that place, but returned first of the week, as the opening of school was postponed awaiting the ar rival of new text boooks. The trial of Clarence Elzev, charged with assault with intent to kill and murder, for shooting Ross Parker at a dance near Purdy in December last, was held Friday of last week s term of circuit court and resulted in the defendant being convicted and sen tenced to one year in the state peni tentiary.— Huntsville Democrat. Mrs. Naomi Phillpis, formerly Miss Naomi Beach, who killed Earl Sisco near Hindsville on the night of June 12, 1916, was tried in circuit court Thursday of last week and acquitted. This was her second trial, the first being held a year ago and resulting in a hung jury.—Huntsville Democrat. Roy Dudgeon, a member of Co.
