BIYING AT HOME The subject of the local mer chant and the duty the citizens owe in patronizing the local shops is one that always should command serious attention. First of all the local merchant is a citizen, a resident of the com munity ; he pays taxes along with you for the upkeep and improve ment of the community; he raises his family and sends his children to school schools which he helps, with you, to maintain. If he is a butcher, he buys clothes and shoes from a fellow-merchant, but no matter what his line of business, he spends money with other busi ness men of the community. He banks in local banks; he takes his family of evenings to local shows. Summed up, the money he makes in the community is spent in it. W ere it not for your local mer chant there would be less prog ress and prosperity in the com munity. lie is here day in and day out, rain or shine, giving his time and energy and money to whatever will benefit the city and county, taking part in the ad ministrations of the community or aiding to regulate the admin istration for the community’s best interests by his vote. Is he not. then, entitled to considera tion? But there is something more than a call for loyalty to him as citizen to citizen, as neighbor to neighbor. Living here as he does, the local merchant comes to know- his customers. They are not to him “just customers,” but “fellow citizens.” As he will be here tomorrow and the next day and next year, meeting his customers face to face, day after day, his business gets his per sonal attention every transac tion is a personal dealing be tween him and the patron. He is in himself a guarantee of his goods and prices and service be cause he is always at the same stand meeting largely the same customers. The local merchant cannot ex ist upon the patronage of tran sients—his livelihood conies from permanent residents; his aim is to make permanent residents regular customers. He must do this—hence his wares, his prices and his service are all and always arranged and held to this end.* You never heard your live wire, wide-awake home merch ant say, ‘‘Oh, well, one customer more or less makes no differ ence." Every customer, to him.' is important; a new' customer is eagerly sought, and a customer less—well, your local merchant will not let it happen if anything just and reasonable under the sun will prevent such a thing oc curring. So not alone out of a sense of loyalty to the community, but for your own sake—for the sake of your purse and the satisfac tion of being given personal at tention—buy of our home merch ant. Drive Them Off with Dr. Edwards’ Olive Tablets A pimply face will not embarrass you muen longer if you get a package of Dr. Edwards’ Olive Tablets. The skin should begin to clear after you have taken the tablets a few nights. Cleanse the blood, bowels and liver with Dr. Edwards' Olive Tablets, the successful substitute for calomel; there’s no sickness or pain after taking them. Dr. Edwards’ Olive Tablets do that which calomel does, and just as effec tively, but their action is gentle and safe mstead of severe and irritating. No one who takes Olive Tablets is ever cursed with a "dark brown taste, ” a bad breath, a dull, listless, "no good” feeling, constipation, torpid liver, bad disposition or pimply face. Olive Tablets are a purely vegetable compound mixed with olive oil; you will know them by their olive color. Dr. Edwards spent years among pa tients afflicted with liver and bowel complaints and Olive Tablets are the immensely effective result. Take one or two nightly for a week.
