LOCAL DEBUTANTE: Miss Marijo Diggins, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Bartholomew Diggins, 9716 Bexhill dr.,
Rock Creek Hills, made her debut at a dinner at the
Irish Embassy last week. She was presented jointly
with Miss Mary Heame, daughter of the Irish Ambas
sador and Mrs. Heame. A seventh generation Wash
ingtonian, Miss Diggins wore a Priscilla gown of white
taffeta with a tight-fitting bodice and an off-shoulder
neckline. She carried an ermine muff covered with
white orchids and holly. A sophomore at Rosemont
College in Philadelphia, the local deb graduated from
Stone Ridge Country Day School of the Sacred Heart.
She also bowed at the Debutante Cotillion and Thanks

A Christmas green and white
color motif was carried out in
the holiday wedding of Miss
Martha Louise Tatum, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carson
Tatum, 5415 Harwood rd., Be
thesda, to Robert Payne, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Payne
of Washington, D, C. The Uni
versity of Maryland chapel, Col
lege Park, was the setting for
the December 19 ceremony with
the Rev. William A. Beal, rector
of St. John’s Episcopal Church,
Bethesda, officiating.
The former Miss Tatum wore
a gown of white brocade styled
along princess lines with a Sa
brina neckline and three-quarter
sleeves. Her fingertip veil cf
silk illusion was attached to a
wreath of orange blossoms and
she carried a cascade of white
roses and stephanotis with ever
greens and Oregon holly.
Miss Linda Tatum, a fresh
man at the University of Flor
ida, was maid of honor for her
sister, in an afternoon dress of
cherry red chiffon and satin
peau. She carried white poinset
tias and evergreens.
Also attending the bride were
Miss Jane Snyder of Bethesda,
a senior at Cedar Crest College;
Miss Nadine Mare of Valley
Stream,*N. Y„ a classmate of the
bride at the University of Mary
land and Miss Roberta Fly of
Bethlehem, Pa., the bride's cou
sin, who attends Cazenovia (N.
Y.) Junior College. They were
pale green chiffon and satin
peau dresses and carried red
poinsettias with evergreens.
Eleven-year-old Ellen Sayre
of Annapolis was flower girl
in a cherry red velveteen frock,
carrying a nosegay of Christ-

cent wedding in Colton, Calif.,
uniting Miss Sharon Wakefield,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
George Wakefield, 700 Hudson

Mrs. Dale Miller of Lodi, Calif.
The ceremony took place De
cember 17 at the Colton Sev
enth-day Adventist Cnurch with
Mr. George Akers, dean of stu
dents at La Sierra (Calif.) Col
lege, officiating.
The bride wore a chapel
length gown of white satin de
signed w'th a yoke of alencon
lace. Her fingertip veil of illu
sion fell from a crown of orange
blossoms and she carried a bou
quet of rubrum lilies.

The bride and her husband
are both seniors at the Univer
sity of Maryland. He is a past
president of Phi Sigma Kappa
fraternity and she is president
of Sigma Kappa sorority as
well as a member of Omicron
Nu and Diamond and Mortar
Board national honor societies.

and Loma Linda, Calif., and
the bridesmaids were Miss Don
na Greene, a nursing student
at White Memorial Hospital,
Los Angeles and Mrs. Mary
McKay of U.C.L.A., cousin of
the bride. They were gowned in
Christmas blue satin and car
ried white fur muffs with pink
Sweetheart roses.
Serving as flower girls were
little Donna Bankus and Bon
nie Wakefield, the bride’s cou
sin.
Vernon Sparks, a medical stu
dent at the College of Medical
Evangelists, was best man and
the ushers were Fred Strong of
U.C.L.A., and Robert Wood, also
a medical student at the College
of Medical Evangelists.
For her daughter's wedding
Mrs. Wakefield chose a rose
lace gown and the bridegroom’s
mother selected blue satin bro
cade faille. Each had an orchid
corsage.
The former Miss Wakefield
received her bachelor of nurs
ing degree from the College of
Medical Evangelists in June,
1959. Her husband received his
bachelor of arts from Union Col
lege, Lincoln Neb., and is now
a sophomore medical student at
the College of Medical Evangel
