Heeney By Marion Griffith CLearwater 3-2682 The Laytonsville Boys 4-H met last week at the home of James Gue. Tom Heeney gave a summary of the growth and progress of the group during the past year and their record of achievement in 4-H projects. The club has grown during the past year from 12 members to 42 members. David Martin and James Moore are the group leaders. Election of officers for the new year was held with the fol lowing results: Putt Willett, president; Roy Green, vice presi dent; Mike Montgomery, secre tary; Warren Beglin, treas urer; and Robert Payne, re porter. The Catholic Daughters Of St. Paul’s Church, Damascus, held their Christmas party last week at the home of Mrs. Henry Auth. Hostesses were Mrs. Win fred Day, Mrs. George Kelly, Mrs. Albert H. Hanson and Mrs. Michael Turton. The first service was held it St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Damascus this past week when midnight Mass was celebrated on Christmas Eve. St. Paul’s Church will be ded icated on January 10 at 11 a.m. Archbishop Patrick J. Elliott GArden 4-9336 Most everyone Is either away from home visiting relatives or else having people In to cele brate the holidays. Dr. Lenore Bajda of Allison dr., had a lovely dinner party on the 23rd. Guests included Mrs. Guy Watkins, Dr. and Mrs. Harvye Sweetbaum, Mr. and Mrs. Trent McPherson, and Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Eskildson. Her delicious dessert, a New Or leans pudding, required three days of preparation. After the party Lenore and her constant companion, Joshua, left for New Jersey to spend the Christmas weekend with friends and rela tives. All the Christmas gifts from one Atlantic ave. home this year were hand made. Peg Sante, the talented owner of ‘Textile town,” personally made every gift she gave this year. Even happy holidays seem to generate some unfortunate ac cidents. In all the excitement Beth Valentine injured an eye on the branches of a tree at their Ridgway ave. home. The Robert Rapps and the Wallace Wards, both of Wain wright ave., went ‘‘back home” for Christmas: the Rapps to Johnstown, Pa., and the Wards to the home of their parents in Kingston, N. Y. Barbara and Clarence Smith of Alsace la., spent the Christmas weekend with his parents in Connecticut. The Peter Townsend family of Atlantic ave.. went to Wilming ton, Dela., for the holidays. After completing the many Christmas services at Crusader Lutheran Church, pastor and Mrs. Paul Milheim are driving his mother back to Columbus, Ohio, and spending a few days there visiting/ friends in the con gregation he formerly served. John and Olive Milgate, Gruenther ave., spent Christ mas at home with Olive's par ents visiting them. Carol and Herb Stephens held “open house” at their Denfield rd. home on the 26th . . . the David Orrs had about 50 people to their Meadow Hall home for an eggnog party . . . the Leigh ton Dudleys held an open house on Fletcher place. Ileana and Joseph Jodi Invited friends from far and near for coffee and pastry on the 27th. Later a few out-of-town friends remained for a buffet supper Their daughter, Diane Le Mauck, was visiting them from her home in Chicago. Mary Boquel’s mother came from Bethlehem, Pa., to visit their new home on Twinbrook ave. and spend Christmas with them. Mrs. H. B. Frater of Spar ta, Tenn., visited her daughter, Betty Allen and her family at the latter’s McAuliffe dr. home. Richard and Dorothy Dowe of Dean dr., had his family as vis itors from Florida. The Tom Alfords had as guests Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mor gan and their son for the holi days. They entertained for about 50 in their Meadow Hall dr. home as part of the festivi ties. Clary and daugh ter, Ann, Mr. and Mrs. Lee War field, Mrs. George Glascock. Miss Georgianna Glascock, and Mr. William Glascock. Mrs. Glascock after the holiday re turned to her home in Summit Point, W. Va. She has spent the past month with her daughter. Mrs. Clagett Warfield. Tenth grade: June Ann Burdette, Jo anne Duvall, Thomas Low, Cur tis Day, Susan Freienmuth and Martha Slaton. Eleventh grade: Linda Burdette, Elaine Tobin, and Sylvie Pope. Twelfth grade: Perry Burdette, Jack King, Jo Ann Warfield. Paul Welsh, Su san Petrie, Pamela Dame, Dar lene Lyons, and Betty Wilson. Peggy Burdette and Darlene Lyons recently attended the county Future Teachers of America meeting at Broome Junior High as representatives of the Damascus chapter. The local chapter of the Na tional Honor Society sponsored a panel discussion about college life last week in the Damascus High Library. Juniors and Sen iors interested in college attend ed and heard a discussion on what college life is like led by former DHS students. Discus sion leaders were: Dean Kesler, chairman now at Randolph Ma con; Ellen Saylor, now at Amer ican University; Connie Mills, now at Gardner School of Busi ness; Nancy Windham, now at Maryland; Thomas White, now at Johns Hopkins; and Cliff Burdette, at Randolph Macon. Other college students attend ing included Janice Glime, Ann Davidson, Sandy King and Bon nie Larkin. The DHS Hornets meet Lau rel High January 5 in the Da mascus gym. They will be seek ing a comeback victory after their 26-22 defeat in the open ing game of the season with Laurel.
