Visitors to
Planetarium
Exceed 1200
As of December 1, 1200
persons, adults and students
alike, had visited the new
Spitz Planetarium on the
campus of Montgomery Jun
ior College, according to Mrs.
Imogene Fumo, faculty mem
ber in charge.
Organized student groups
from Montgomery County, ac
companied by their leaders,
have been in session In the
darkened half sphere almost
daily since its announced open
ing. The projected sky, which
can be manipulated to any hour
of any night of any month, is
proving of vast educational pop
ularity, and the activities of the
Panetarium are now scheduled
more than two months into
1961, college officials said. ■
Letters of announcement
have been circulated among In- I
terested groups in the area, in
viting them to schedule a visit 1
to the new facility Those wish- j
ing to see the Planetarium are i
invited to call for an appoint- '
ment, keeping in mind the fact !
that it is not a “show” for fun. j
Children under 10 years of age |
are not admitted and at this !
time, the Planetarium is open i
only to organized groups of in- I
terested persons.
The Spitz Planetarium is a
part of the new half-million dol
lar facility on the Takoma Park j
campus, opened for use last Sep- |
tember.
Chess Champion
Tackles 18 Foes
In Single Match
If you are a chess player and
are at the point where you find
games against a single oppo
net no longer challenging, then
you ought to try taking on 18
opponents at one time.
This is exactly what Morris
Kobak, three time State of Con
necticut champion, did at a re
cent simultaneous chess match
sponsored by the Suburban
Chess Club at the game room
of the Wheaton Nursing Home.
Kobak’s record against the 18
area chess players was 12-5-1,
the tie resulting when the time
limit forced the abandoning of
a game with Alan Hoof.
The victors over the New
Englander were Carl Wickum,
Sigmund Fritz, Harold Halpert,
J. W. Park, and Sam Dakosky,
tournament director of the club.
