IN MEMORIAM
In sad hut loving Memory of
our Darling Son and Brother
THOMAS WILLIAM TAYLOR
who passed away fifteen years
and six months on Christmas
Day 1945.
In our hearts your memory
lingers
Sweetly tenderly fond and true.
There is not a day dear Thomas
That we do not think of you.
They say time heals all sorrow
And helps-us to forget.
But time so far has only proved
How much we miss you yet.
The wreath we place upon your
grave
May wither and decay.
But my love for you who sleeps!

Will never fade away.
Rest in peace Dear Son A

Japanese Tour
School Building
A team of top executives and
production managers in the
heating and plumbing industry
in Japan spent Wednesday after
noon on a tour of Springbrook
High School, with Richard C.
Ahlberg, principal of the school,
acting as host in the building
which was opened to students
on December 5.
The visitors, all members of
the Japan Plumbing and Heat
ing Contractors’ Association ,
which functions under the juris- 1
diction of the Japanese Con
struction Ministry, are on an
American tour arranged in 00- ,
operation with the State Depart
ment and ICA.
Since their itinerary features
visits to piping contractors,
buildings under construction
and modem finished buildings,
their Inspection of the recently :
completed school presented :
many matters of primary '
interest to the group. 1

Bride’s Injury Fails to Halt
Wedding Performed in Hospital
A back injury that forced the
untimely hospitalization of one
of the principals has failed to
disrupt the wedding plans of
Thomas M. Moulden, a member
of the Montgomery County po
lice force, and Miss Pauline H.
Smith, of Rockville.
The couple was married last
week in the solarium of Sub
urban Hospital, where Mrs.
Moulden had been a patient
since she sustained the injury
in a fall on December 7. The
mishap occurred shortly after
they had visited the minister to
discuss their wedding plans.
Whittier Seeks...
(Continued from Page Al)
ters’ degrees would be given
other increment increases as
they proceed to acquire credit
toward higher degrees and
those with masters’ degrees
would be granted length-of-serv
ice boosts of 10 per cent every
five years If they continue to
receive career recognition.
Thus, it would be possible for
a teacher with a master’s de
gree to attain a peak pay of
SIO,BOO a year after long serv
ice, Dr. Whittier explained.
Teachers holding bachelors’
degrees would be given the
choice of remaining on one of
two proposed pay scales, de
pendent on their desire to par
ticipate In the school system s
career recognition program.
The starting pay on both scales
would remain at $4,500. but
those electing to participate in
career recognition could reach
a $7,650 maximum compared to
a top of $7,300 available to non
partidpants.
Recommendation Required
Teachers in the career recog
nition program must be specif
ically recommended for ad
vancement in the last two steps
of the 12-year pay scale, while
the annual increments are paid
to nonpartidpants automati
cally.
Of the total operating budget 1
requested by Dr. Whittier, ]
about 75 per cent or $30.5 mil
lion would be devoted to instruc
tional salaries, the superintend-1
are Cadet Richard H. Slye, of Wheaton;
Maj. Leland, who received a certificate of
merit for outstanding performance as an
Academy representative during the confer
ence; Cadet Peter J. Ognibene, Silver Spring,
and Cadet Will Stackhouse, 3rd, of Rockville.
' Hospital authorities lent their
■ full cooperation when Moulden
i and his bride-to-be expressed
f their determination to be mar
• ried on the originally scheduled
date. Mrs. Erma Miller, director
of nursing, supervised the wed
. ding arrangements and served
’ as hostess at the reception that
, followed.
The bride was wheeled into
the solarium where about 12
guests assembled and saw the
nuptial ceremony performed by
' the Rev. John P. Gates, of the
i First Baptist Church of Bethes-
I ent said. About $35 million
would come from county tax
funds.
While the proposed increase
in the budget is attributable
largely to an expected enroll
ment jump of nearly 6000 pu
pils, a number of other im
proved services are planned, ac
cording to Dr. Whittier. Some
of the additional funds would
be expended to meet routine
cost increases, including an es
timated $538,300 to provide pay
increases for teachers and per
sonnel of the supporting serv
ices called for in the existing
salary scale.
Retirement Plan Included
Among new features to be
provided under Dr. Whittier’s
proposal would be a retirement
plan for employes of the sup
porting services, affording them
benefits similar to those of
teachers, at an Initial cost of
$272,000. Also proposed is a
sharp increase in library serv
ices. oalling for the employment
of 37 additional librarians and
the purchase of books required
to reach a minimum of five
books for each pupil throughout
the school system.
Employment of assistant prin
cipals at 11 elementary schools,
addition of 15 new kindergarten
' teachers, increased secretarial
; service in elementary and sec
ondary schools, four additional
psychologists. 30 new lay read
, eis, 10 additional counselors, 24
da. Mrs. Moulden was attened
by her sister, Mrs. Joyce Jus
tice, of Rockville, as matron of
honor, while Leonard E. Cook,
also of Rockville, was best man.
The solarium was banked
with flowers for the occasion
and the bride carried a nosegay
bouquet of pink and white
roses. She wore a heliotrope
peignor with matching gown.
Following the ceremony, the
guests enjoyed fruit punch and
a wedding cake presented to the
young couple by Suburban Hos
pital.
