Club Postpones
Luncheon
A luncheon scheduled for May
2 at the Manor Club by the
Woman’s Democratic Club of
Montgomery County has been
posted until a later date, Mrs.
Richard Fleming, president, an
nounced yesterday.
Mrs. Fleming also announced
that the clubs affiliated with
the county group, with a mem
bership of about 1,500 women,
have been urged to indorse the
action of the Montgomery Coun
ty League of Women Voters in
its move to petition a referen
dum on the Congressional re
districting of the State.
Letters were sent this week
to the club presidents asking
support of the movement and
the aid of their members in se
curing signatures needed for
the referendum.
In another action, the club
has recommended that Mrs
Edna Cook, a member of the
county delegation to the State
legislature, be appointed by
Gov. Tawes to the State Com
mission to study Higher Educa
tion. Mrs. Cook is second vice
president of the club and active
in educational work in State and
national levels.
Spring Dance
Set for Friday

two families of maples owe their
existence to the discovery of
single trees on burial grounds.
One specie, called the acer
piatanoldes erectum, because of
its narrow shape, originated in
Mount Hope Cemetery in
Rochester, N.Y. and now is
widely grown in the Rochester
area. The other, known as acer
saccharum monumentale or the
sentry sugar maple, was discov
ered in an old Newton, Mass.,
cemetery, according to the
Davey Tree Expert Co.
