in charge of the Annual Farm
Credit Conference of the Mary
land Bankers Association to be
held at the Sheraton-Baltimore
Inn in Baltimore, May 23-24. Mr.
Hyatt is chairman of the asso
ciation’s agriculture committee.
Speakers will include Ray A.
Murray and Harold Smith, Uni
versity of Maryland economists;
G. L. Bridger. director, agricul
tural chemical research, W. R.
Grace Co.; William Boucher,
111, Greater Baltimore Commit
tee; W. Gregory Halpin. Mary
land Port Authority; Edward
M. Norman, First National
Bank of Clarkesville. Tenn.; and
Phillip F. Aylesworth, United
States Department of Agricul
ture. The bankers will also visit
the W. R. Grace Research Divi
sion in Clraksville, Md„ on the
first afternoon.

Two deaths in the Damascus
area on Tuesday, May 9, sad
dened the community which
wishes to extend sympathy to
the families of Mrs. Lola Y.
Burdette, 26720 Ridge rd„ and
Robert H. Bolton, Claggettsville.
Mrs. Burdette’s funeral was
held Thursday at the’ Moles
worth Funeral Home with inter
ment in the Damascus Ceme
tery, and services for Mr. Bol
ton were from the same funeral
homo Friday with burial in
Rockville.

Attention is called to the Dog
Rabies Clinic to be held at Da
mascus High School Friday,
May 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Dogs must be vaccinated before
a license for the year can be ob
tained. The type vaccine used in
these clinics affords only a one
year immunity and a booster
shot must be given each year.
These shots are given without
cost to all dogs of residents of
the county. ,

attended the Group 4 meeting of
the Maryland Bankers Associa
tion held at Easton May 9. re
turning home the following day.

The First Baptist Church of
Damascus is making good prog
ress on its plans for the new
church. The architect will sub
mit preliminary plans at the
meeting qf the building com
mittee tonight. A list .of neces
sary furnishings nedeed for the
new church is being compiled
and will be distributed to mem
bers and friends soon, so that
good used pianos and other fur
nishings may be obtained either
through gifts of friends, or per
haps some one may know where
these articles could be obtained
at a. special price. The deacons
met at the High School Sunday
night to consider spiritual mat
ters of the church. At the Sun
day morning service Mothers
Day corsages were given to the
youngest and the oldest moth
ers in attendance and the moth
er of the largest family.

the Woman’s Board of Mont
gomery General Hospital met
Tuesday at the home of Mrs. B.
M. Woodfield. The following la
dies were present: Mrs. Richard
Stuart, Mrs. Sherwood Hackett,
Mrs. Broschart Richards, Mrs.
Dwight Monnier, Mrs. Kinsey
L. Plummer, Mrs. George Boy

last weekend in New Bruns
iwick, N. J., where she attended
the military ball at Rutgers Uni
versity as the guest of Frank
Rice of Damascus.

Sunday, May 14, at St. Paul’s
Catholic Church the following
children received their first holy
communion at the 10 a.m. Mass:
Gary Helfin, Norman Duvall,
Robert Lemmon. Georgia Kelly,
Deborah Marshall, Pamela Mills
and Betty Lou Bargmann. In
the afternoon at 3 o’clock the
May Procession was held. Ev
eryone in the parish was invited
to take part. Benediction was
given at the close of the serv
ice. Monday evening the Holy
Name Society had a smoker in
the church hall. The. Rev. Fred
rick McGuire, C.M., the head of
the Mission Secretariat of the
NCWC, was the guest speaker.
Father McGuire was a mission
ary in China. All men of the
parish were invited and refresh
ments were served. A Solemn
Novena to God the Holy Ghost
started on May 13 at 7:45 p.m.
