Tueiday, November 7, 1961 SENT IN E l 2 Damascus Elementary School will celebrate American Educa tion Week Friday, November 10. On that day parents are invited to visit classes through out the day. Report cards will be out on November 8. Mr. Brake's class enjoyed a com bination hike and campout last Wednesday night, November 1. The fourth grade enjoyed a trip to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington Wednesday. * • • On November 15 the First Baptist Church will hold a busi ness meeting at which time two deacons, spiritual leaders of the church, will be elected., The budget for the coming year of approximately $14,700 will be presented for approval by the congregation. November 12 during the evening service Richard Randall will show slides of his trip to Mexico last i summer. He visited many mis sion stations on his trip. A stewardship lesson will be taught in the Sunday School Sunday. November 12. The Youth Revival held recently was a real success. Two young ladies who are from Argentina, presently students at Maryland University, were weekend guests in the homes of Mrs. Walter Johnson and Mrs. Rob ert Barker. The visit of Miss Suzanne Hanza and Miss Stella Marchesi was arranged and sponsored by the Woman's Mis sionary Union. • * • Mr. and Mrs. Walter Frear and family and Mrs. Jarvis and two daughters have recently moved to the Perrywood apart ments. Mr. Frear is a teacher in the Damascus High School and Mrs. Jarvis at the Seventh day Adventist school near Lay tonsville. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Chamblee have moved from the Perrywood apartments to their j new home on Woodfleld rd. • • • B. D. Gladhill, Jerry Cook and Perry Burdette attended the Fall Membership Meeting of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, No vember 1, at the Montgomery County Airpark, which at the same time celebrated the first anniversary of ts official open ing. The Holy Name Society will meet November 10 in the church hall at 8:30 p.m. Father Joseph Thorning, Ph.D., St.D., i pastor of St. Joseph’s Church, Buckeytown, an authority on Latin America, will be the speaker. Miss Mary Ann Huddleston is still a patient in Suburban Hos pital. * • The Damascus Area of the Maryland-Virginia Milk Pro ducers Association held their yearly meeting and banquet at the Damascus High School on Thursday, November 2. The PTA served the banquet to a large group of about 125. Ho mer Remsburg, president of the j Co-op gave the rejort on the [year’s operation. • • * The Damascus Rotary Club i met for its regular meeting on Thursday evening at the fire house. The speaker of the eve ning was State Trooper L. L. Norbeck. Mr. Norbcck ex plained- the Radar system as used on the state roads. He stated that when they had the equipment set up on a certain road it slowed down traffic so much that it was felt certain some lives were saved by Its operation, thus justifying its use. Roger Day was accompa j nied by his guest Soepandrijono Bjojodirdjo of East Java, In donesia. Mr. Bjojodlndjo is chief of agricultural extension work in East Java and is in this country for a year to study Amercian agriculture. He plans to go back and try to teach his 'people to raise their standards !of agriculture. He will be the guest of Mr. Day for 10 days, ! after which he will be in Rock ville for a while. He will then be at Maryland University and other parts of Maryland until February, after which he will go to Arizona. He will return to Indonesia in June. A $5,770 contract for installa tion of house connections in va rious subdivisions in Montgom ery and Prince Georges Coun ties was awarded to the Kelley Construction Co., Inc., of Silver Spring. # Metropolitan Utilities Con struction Corporation, College Park, received a $6,926 contract for Installation of water and sewer facilities on 18th ave., Riggs Park Estates, Prince Georges County, and Manches ter rd. in Forest Hills and Valley Brook dr., Springbrook Estates, Montgomery County. Five contracts were awarded in Prince Georges County. Daniels Bootery To Open Store On Rockville Pike A new Daniel’s Bootery branch will be opened about December 1 at 1520 Rockville Pike, opposite Congressional Plaza. The store will handle chil dren's and teen agers’ shoes ex clusively, both regular and or thopedic. Fred B. Stoddard, with the or ganization for four years, will manage the new store. Daniels Bootery has operated stores in Montgomery and Prince Georges counties for 10 years. Clarke Named To Firm Board Allen S. Clarke, former presi dent of Nems-Clarke Company, a division of Vitro Corporation, has been elected to the board of directors of the Weinschel EngV i neerlng Company of Kensihg*- ton. In addition to his responsibili ties as a board member, he will also act as a consultant to the company where his broad ex perience in electronic design, de velopment and production will contribute materially to the fu ture growth of the organization. In making the announcement, Bruno O. Weinschel, president of Weinschel Engineering, said that Clarke brings to the com pany the benefit of 47 years ex perience as an engineer and ex ecutive in the radio and elec tronics industry.
