Country Hoe-down
The Potomac Hunt Club was
jumping Saturday evening with
members and guests that re
sponded to the house commit
tee's invitation to attend a real
country hoe-down. Music from
the country orchestra varied in
style from the Tennessee Waltz
to Twist Around The Clock,
and in-between they found
time for square dances, fox
trots, and any and everything
else that’s been invented. Twist
ers were most prevalent and
Sarah Lee Greenhalgh and
Vicki Weller took top honors
while Ray Norton, jr. showed
the most exuberance.
Jim Mac Martin, Tick Sem
mes. Sandy Lankier and Gene
Martin attired in obvious hoe
down style were decked in bar
tender's aprons, black mus
taches, side-burns, and bow ties
plus the other necessities. They
didn’t steal the show from Tim
Hanson either, who sported a
black bowler and knickers.
Mike McConihe was done up in
his hoe-down best, contempo
rary style, and prior to the
hunt club party he and his
Mrs. had invited guests to
their Plney Spring Farm for
pre-party preparations.
Jerry and Jimma Strong,
just back from California, were
twisting Hollywood style. Jerry,
while strumming the bass fid
dle he borrowed from the or
chestra, and doing a fine job
on it said he will be going
back to California in August
to do another show. Another
talented fiddler proved to be
Herb Miller, who when not
fiddling kept his cowboy boots
flying. The one man not fly
ing so high was Thomas Dowd.
He stood in a comer on
crutches. Tom has learned to
Jump and land gracefully from
a horse but not from his trac
tor. He took a flying leap and
sprained hds ankle. Bertha Gar
rett was entertaining him with
her story about how the Twist
is going to put Vic Tanney out
of business.
Later in the evening, follow
ing a spaghetti dinner, Claude
Embrey called square dances
to round out the evening’s ac
tivities. Apparently for some
the party continued as one of
the guests hired the orchestra
and took them home to enter
tain 50 or so of her friends,
but for the others, they were
just too tired to move.
